Entering 2018, the Jags are set at +125000 to win the FBS Championship. They’re also sitting at 50/1 odds to win the Sun Belt, placing them behind Arkansas State (5/4), Troy (9/5), Georgia Southern (12/1), ULM (12/1), Georgia State (30/1) and Louisiana-Lafayette (30/1).
They are ahead of Coastal Carolina and Texas State, both sitting at 30/1 odds to win the Sun Belt conference.

Receiving game: This isn’t to say that the Jaguars are going to be a light’s out passing offense. But the truth is that the receiving corps goes multiple players who can be threats. Jamarius Way and Sam Harris will take the pressure off both the running game and the quarterback throughout the season.

2018 South Alabama Jaguars Predictions: Team Weaknesses
Running game: Jaguars are known for their ability to run, run, run. Well, not ones from South Alabama apparently.
Last season, the Jags were the fourth-worst rushing team in all of college football when it came to total yards gained on the ground. They were 122nd in rushing touchdowns, 128th in yards per carry and 126th in yards per game.
Don’t expect this team to be much better this season, as this problem needs more talent to fix itself.

Uncertainty at quarterback: Sometimes when you have a quarterback battle entering fall camp, it’s a good thing. It can spark a competitive spirit that brings out the best in a young prospect, or it’s simply a matter of choosing the best fit between two solid options.
Unfortunately for USA, this isn’t the case entering 2018 fall training camp. This team needs to find itself a starting quarterback, but odds are, we’ll see a decision made preseason that is questioned—if not changed—part way through the year.
Defense: It’s tough to pinpoint just where the Jaguars need to improve the most on defense, but an overall lack of talent and depth led to this squad being one of the worst in the nation when it came to putting pressure on opposing quarterbacks and forcing offenses into negative yardage.
South Alabama Jaguars Prediction: 5-7
This team is going to push for bowl eligibility. The problem is that the roster has enough talent gaps in it that actually making that bowl game seems unlikely—especially if the team can’t ever figure out a stable quarterback situation.

If whoever lands the starting job behind center proves to be a worthy QB, six wins becomes not only more likely but maybe even the minimum. Seven wins isn’t out of the question if the passing game is consistent and therefore helping take pressure off the run.
We just don’t see that happening at this stage. So 5-7 it is.
