Will this be the year the step forward is taken? Or are they still one year away from really competing?
2018 Rutgers Scarlet Knights Predictions: Team Strengths
New Offensive Coordinator? : There are still a ton of questions involving the offense, but there is no question that this offense should be a lot better under new offensive coordinator John McNulty.
He runs a much faster pace game than Jerry Kill, and that should lead for a lot more chances to have success on the offensive side of the ball.
The receiving corps is also going to be a lot better with a bunch of fast receivers on the outside that can really get up and down the field.
There really is nowhere to go but up for the Scarlet Knights offense, but really expect it to be a big step taken forward.
Good Backfield: The Scarlet Knights lost their top two running backs, but there is a good chance this running back group could be better this year.
They are quick and are going to be a handle for defenses everywhere. Look for this to be a key to the new and improved offense this year.
2018 Rutgers Scarlet Knights Predictions: Team Weaknesses
Quarterback: The key for a good offensive is to have a good quarterback, and although that might already be on the roster, the Scarlet Knights need to find it. There are six quarterbacks on the roster including a former five star recruit, but one of them needs to take control of the job.
The quarterback was a real struggle last year, and that needs to change this year. The receivers are there but they need to start airing it out more and taking advantage of that.
Early on this season it will be easy to figure out where the offense is especially the quarterback play and it needs to be a big step forward.
No push up front: The Rutgers Scarlet Knights defense wasn’t good last year, and a big reason was they weren’t getting the pushes they needed up front.
The front line got younger, and it is probably going to be a weakness again this year. If there is no push up front, expect the whole defense to really struggle.
It’s an undersized front, and they need to play bigger then they look this season.
Rutgers Scarlet Knights Prediction: 7-5
The Scarlet Knights got themselves a nice non conference schedule, but the Big 10 schedule is going to be really tough this year.
I think the Scarlet Knights will finish with five wins, and just fall short of making it back to a Bowl Game.
