The Panthers will enter the 2018 college football season at +200000 to win the National Championship. They’ll also enter at 30/1 odds to win the Sun Belt, putting them behind Arkansas State (5/4), Troy (9/5), Appalachian State (5/2), Georgia Southern (12/1), ULM (12/1) and tied with Louisiana-Lafayette (30/1).
2018 Georgia State Panthers Predictions: Team Strengths
Blank Slate at QB: Watching your starting quarterback leave is hardly a good thing, but in Shawn Elliott’s first year as head coach, he was forced to scheme his offense around the incumbent. Now, with Manning gone and coordinator Travis Trickett looking for a new starter, Elliott will have the ability to use a dual-threat QB to diversify the offensive approach.

Receiving core: Whoever lands the starting quarterback gig will have the luxury of having weapons on the outside to make his transition into the job a bit easier. Penny Hart and Christian Owens will give the new starter a lot to look forward to in the passing game, and that’s a huge plus for Elliott as he looks to integrate his own system in Year 2 as the lead man on the sidelines.
2018 Georgia State Panthers Predictions: Team Weaknesses
Pass Defense: Overall, the Panthers don’t have a bad weakness. In fact, their fourth-ranked (Sub Belt) defense from a year ago has the potential to be even better this season.
The catch, of course, is that it must improve in pass defense to get there. And in order to do that, we likely need to see a fresh group of secondary and/or linebackers integrated into the system to help keep up with the long ball and prevent big plays.

Georgia State Panthers Prediction: 6-6
For a team that overachieved a bit last season, the question becomes whether the Panthers will take another step and once again be ahead of the curve or if moderate improvements are enough to get them to where they were supposed to be all along.

In this case, we’re going to assume the record takes a small dip while the team actually takes small steps in the right direction.
For Georgia State, half a step back ins’t a bad thing if it means getting a secondary and a quarterback ready for 2019. This team has a lot of potential to improve, and while it may be quiet improvements made in 2018, Year 3 under Elliott is where we’re likely to see this program really shine.
If you’re a Panthers fan, it’s a good time to start letting your flags fly. Because by 2019, you’ll want to claim you were a believer all along—even when the 2018 record lost a win from the season prior.
