2018 Southern Georgia Eagles Predictions: Team Strengths
Defensive Continuity: Nobody’s going to claim that this is a great, or even good, defensive team. Last season, the Eagles gave up over 400 yards per contest—good for just 79th in the country—but they do return nine starters.
Getting everybody on the same page in the first full season under Chad Lunsford is going to be crucial, and the defensive end is where we could really see the squad rally.

Consistency at tailback: The truth is that the Eagles should see a nice year from their quarterback, Shai Werts. The sophomore is a nice dual-threat behind center, but the real threat comes in the form of Wesley Fields. The senior should take a lot of the pressure off of Werts, and with an improving offensive line, he has a chance to make his name for himself—not to mention get this team back to relevancy within the Sun Belt Conference.
2018 Georgia Southern Eagles Predictions: Team Weaknesses
Anemic Offense: Georgia Southern ranked 114th in the nation last season in yards per game. They managed to compile just 332 yards per contest, which resulted in a points-per-week average of 20.8, which put them in the 113th spot in the country.

Balanced defense: As much as this team has continuity on its side as far as defense is concerned, there’s an imbalance of talent that’s going to make the pass defense potentially one of the better groups in the conference while the run defense takes a step back.
Of course, we’re not advocating the team focus less on pass defense—after all, that is the team’s strength. But getting more production up front and on the inside will be important if this team wants to compete for a surprise bowl berth.
Georgia Southern Eagles Prediction: 4-8
If the offense can find a way to create passing opportunities off its run attack—not to mention get a complete showing from both the pass defense and run defense night in and night out—you’re looking at a team that could legitimately go from an 0-9 start a year ago to a six-win campaign in 2018.

Unfortunately, we’re going to need to see it happen before we believe it, even knowing the team has some momentum on its side after buying what its interim-to-head coach was selling at the end of 2017.
Doubling your wins in a year is never a bad thing, and that’s what we have Georgia Southern doing this season.
