2017 Football Preview – ACC – Hokies
Looking for 2017 Virginia Tech Hokies predictions? The Hokies had a really nice season under first year head coach Justin Fuente. The Hokies finished the regular season with a 9-3 record and that gave them a spot in the ACC Championship game. They hope to build on that success this year, and would really like to maybe win that ACC Championship game.

But does Virginia Tech have the weapons to improve? Or will they have a similar season this year, or maybe even take a step back?
2017 Virginia Tech Hokies Predictions: Team Strengths
Star Defense: The Hokies defense was excellent last year, and there is no reason that can’t be the same this year. The defense was ranked 18th in the nation last year and most of those guys are back this year. Eight of the top ten tacklers from last years team are back.
They are led by outside linebacker Tremaine Edmunds who was excellent last year. I would expect him to lead the team in tackles this year, and wreck havoc on opposing defenses.

The back end of the defense is also special. All the starters in the secondary have the talent to paly in the NFL, and should do a really good job of shutting down the pass again this year.
Favorable schedule: One of the strengths of this team is actually being able to play in the Coastal Division of the ACC.
The Coastal Divison is the easier of the two divisions by far. They really don’t have a ton of competion on that side of the division, and as long as they don’t trip up against the Atlantic division they should be okay.
2017 Virginia Tech Hokies Predictions: Team Weaknesses
Who’s At Quarterback?: Now the quarterback position could end up being one of strength by the time the year is done, but coming into the season it is a big question mark.
Everyone expected Jerod Evans would be back for his senior season after a very successful junior campaign, but he decided to turn pro and it kind of left the Hokies in a difficult spot.
Redshirt freshman Josh Jackson, JUCO transfer A.J. Bush and true Freshman Hendon Hooker are all expected to compete for the spot of starting quarterback, but they don’t have much experience under their belt, so the first couple weeks of the season could be filled with some nervous times for Hokies fans.

Problems up Front?: As good as the defense was last year, and as good as they are expected to be this year, there is still one big weakness.
The defensive line let up a lot of big runs last year, and at times couldn’t get much of a push and it really hurt them in some games.
If they want to have success they need to fix some of those issues on the line. That is the one thing that will stop the defense from taking a step forward even more.
Virginia Tech Hokies Prediction: 9-3
Like I said above Virginia Tech has already gotten a gift this season because they are in the Coastal division.
They also got some more gifts from the schedulers. They do have to play Clemson this year, and that will be a really tough game, but they were able to miss out on Florida State and Louisville, which should really help their chances at a really nice season.

I think this team will go 9-3 this year, with losses to West Virginia early, and then to Clemson and Miami. I think 9-3 will be good enough togeet them another shot in the ACC Championship game.
