2017 Texas Longhorns Predictions: Team Strengths
The Man Under Center: Shane Buechele has a strong hold on the starting quarterback position of the Texas Longhorns and he should only get better in his Sophomore season.
In his freshman campaign he had 2958 yards passing and 21 touchdowns. He did throw 11 interceptions but that number isn’t terrible for a freshman quarterback.
Although the Longhorns didn’t get the results they wanted last year on the field, this was one of the positive spots for them.

Beuchele has to be one of the happiest guys to have coach Herman leading the team. He is an offensive coordinator by trade and has worked with some really good quarterbacks like Braxton Miller, Cardale Jones, JT Barrett and Greg Ward Jr.
If he can elevate his level of play and take that next step in his Sophomore season, this team will be good this year.
The guy with the Headset: One of the biggest strengths that this Texas team has this year is in Coach Tom Herman.
The guys just weren’t responding anymore to Charlie Strong, and his time was run. They now have a new voice in the locker room who really turned around a Houston team that wasn’t good until he came to town.
The administration, fans and boosters believe this is the guy that can lead him to the promised land, so for the first time in a few years the vibe around this program is one that is very positive.
2017 Texas Longhorns Predictions: Team Weaknesses
Who’s Running The Ball?: D’Onta Foreman rushed 2,028 yards and 15 TDs last season and now is in the NFL. He was a big physical back that can’t be replaced.
They are very young at the running back position now and they need someone to step up and take that job by the horns.
Last year Buechele was able to have more room to pass the ball and more one on one match ups down the field because of how many they had in the box to stop Foreman.

They are going to need a running back that can take the pressure off of Buechele. If this is a pass first team that doesn’t really have a threat of running the ball, they might have some problems with the offense.
Questions about Malik Jefferson: One of the weaknesses now they are hoping will turn into a strength.
Malik Jefferson really struggled last year in his Sophomore campaign, and for someone with a lot of hype around him the Longhorns need him to step up at the linebacker position.
He is the difference between the position being a strength and it needing a lot of improvement.
Texas Longhorns Prediction
8-4
The Longhorns have high expectations for this season, but will they live up to them?
To start of the season the longhorns play Maryland and San Jose State, both which should be cakewalks. But the schedule gets tough and they will find out a lot about themselves when they travel to southern California to take on the USC Trojans.

In terms of the conference schedule it is pretty easy but the Longhorns are probably going to be a hard team to predict once again.
I think the Longhorns will finish the season 8-4, a nice result in Tom Hermans first year.
