2017 Football Preview – AAC – Owls
Looking for 2017 Temple Owls predictions? The Owls keep exceeding expectations and keep losing their coach as a result. This year they look to Geoff Collins, who was defensive coordinator at Florida, to continue the success of Matt Rhule – back to back 10 win seasons.

The Owls have to replace a lot this season but they might still be a contender in the AAC.
2017 Temple Owls Predictions: Team Strengths
Running Game: Ryquel Armstead was not the starter last year but he finished just 34 yards behind Jahad Thomas and was the more effective of the two running backs.
Temple will definitely look to run the ball this season as they break in a new quarterback.
Reserve Isaiah Wright averaged more than 5 yards per carry as a freshman and can provide a little power too.

Temple is one of the few programs that use a fullback but Nick Sharga is a 6’2″ 240 pound battering ram. When they give him a carry he has a little wiggle too.
Sticking with D: Temple put up great defensive numbers a year ago. Just 18ppg allowed.
They were fantastic against the pass and even though they are breaking in a couple of new corners they probably have the best safety combo in the AAC.
Delvin Randall and Sean Chandler are experienced players who can make tackles and give the offense more opportunities to score through takeaways.
2017 Temple Owls Predictions: Team Weaknesses
Who’s at QB?: P.J. Walker was essentially a four year starter for Temple. However, his best season was as a frosh.
Over the years he was solid but turnover prone. A known, but a known with weaknesses.
This season Logan Marchi looks to take over. Just a sophomore he barely got his feet wet a year ago, throwing only 6 passes in total.

Having a first year signal caller is one thing but the offense is being handed to a first year Division 1 coordinator in Dave Patenaude. He had a lot of success at FCS but this is different.
The defensive coordinator is also new – Taver Johnson. He is well thought of but has not been a DC in a decade and was just the defensive backs coach at Purdue a year ago. Hardly the most obvious stepping stone position.
No surprise on all the new faces given that Collins is getting his first head coaching gig. The defenses he had at Florida were fantastic but how much of that was scheme vs talent. How we does at Temple will tell us a lot.
Temple Owls Prediction: 5-7
It looks like Matt Rhule might have been leaving just in time at Temple.
That is not because of scandal just that at a program like that it is hard to sustain the kind of success that yielded 20 wins the last two seasons.
There is a not of newness to this program and essentially that leads to uncertainty – New HC, OC, DC, QB. That’s a lot for any program.

Expect to see the Owls compete but not be much of a factor in the AAC race this season. If Collins is the right guy he can build them up the way Rhule did.
