2017 Football Preview – MAC – Redhawks
Looking for 2017 Miami Redhawks predictions? The Redhawks had a very interesting 2016 season. After starting the season 0-6 they turned it around in quite a way. They won the last six games of the regular season, and earned themselves a bowl berth. Even though they lost in the bowl game it doesn’t make what they did in the second half of the season any less impressive.

Their 6-6 record was actually good enough to put them in second place in the East division of the MAC conference.
So can the RedHawks get out to a better start this season, and comfortably reach a bowl game? Or is this just a team that has to use a win in their last game of the season to become bowl eligible.
2017 Miami (OH) Redhawks Predictions: Team Strengths
High Hopes At Quarterback: After starting the season 0-6 last year, Chuck Martin decided it was time to make a change at quarterback, and that was the move that saved their season.
He brought in Sophomore Gus Ragland and he led the RedHawks to six straight wins. Coaches and the fans of the team expect Ragland will be even better this year, and they can’t wait to get him on the field.
He threw for 1537 yards and 17 touchdowns last year. The most impressive part wasn’t his touchdowns though, or even his yards thrown.

The most impressive part was how careful he was with the ball. In 179 passing attempts last year he threw only one interception. That really helped the teams success, and if he can control of the football and limit turnovers this year, I would expect even bigger things from the team this year.
Veteran Leadership: This team is a veteran led team, on both sides of the ball. Eight starters are back on both sides of the ball, and they should really help this team improve from the 6-7 record last year.
Back on the offensive side of the ball is quarterback, leading running back, two leading receivers, leading tight end, and four offensive lineman.
On the defensive side of the ball, they have all the impact players back from a team that was the best in the MAC in yards allowed per game.
On the back end of the defense the RedHawks return what is probably the best corner-back combo in all of the conference.
2017 Miami (OH) Redhawks Predictions: Team Weaknesses
Can They Run the Ball?: One thing that has been an issue for the RedHawks since Chuck Martin took over as coach has been the running game, or the lack there of for that matter.
They don’t really have anyone super reliable in the back field, and although the running game did improve a bit once Ragland took over as starting quarterback, it still needs to better.
If the running game can even open up a bit more, opposing teams will have to respect that, and that will really open up the passing game more for the RedHawks.

Questions in the Kicking game: The Kicking game isn’t so much a weakness at this point, as it is a big question mark.
Nick Dowd comes back as the kicker for this team, and at times he struggled last year. He missed five extra points, and with the RedHawks playing a lot of close games last year, and expected to do the same this year, those points could turn out to be very costly.
Miami Redhawks Prediction: 7-5
With a tough non conference schedule, wrapping up a bowl game early on in the season will be tough, but I think they will improve and it won’t come down to the last week for them to punch their ticket.

I think they will finish the season with a 7-5 record and get into another bowl game this year.
