2017 Football Preview – Big Ten – Hoosiers
Looking for 2017 Indiana Hoosiers predictions? The Hoosiers do not have much history on the gridiron. They were looking for a change this offseason though as things had stagnated under coach Kevin Wilson, a strong offensive mind but perhaps not well suited to be a head coach. Now they will see if another first timer can do any better.

Indiana will have to win all the games they are supposed to be decent. I am not too sure how many that really is though.
2017 Indiana Hoosiers Predictions: Team Strengths
Offense should pass Muster: Love him or hate you can’t argue that Wilson brought life to the offense. That should continue with Allen being elevated from the existing staff.
Also helping matters is the return of Richard Lagow. The big QB can make all the throws and is probably as much of an NFL prospect as any QB in the conference.
The same can be said of Simmie Cobbs, a mammoth receiver who missed all of last season due to injury. He is a big play threat on every down.

Allen is a defensive coach so I am betting he understand the value of strength in the trenches and with three returning starters he should be able to put together a group that can give Lagow enough time to be effective.
A little defense too: You probably didn’t notice but the defense was in the middle of the pack last season giving up just 27ppg.
This year they return their entire secondary. That is big news because it includes Rashard Fant. An all league CB who had three picks a year ago. He presence gives them options.
They also return 5 of 7 up front including Tegray Scales. He is the rare player who leads his team in tackles and sacks and many think he can be even better as a senior.
2017 Indiana Hoosiers Predictions: Team Weaknesses
Tom Who?: Every season there are first year coaches but they are usually hot shot coordinators from big programs or guys who have killed it at smaller schools.
Allen was brought in to right the defensive woes of the Hoosiers and has had some success but previous stops at Ole Miss and USF hardly had this guy on the fact track.

It will be interesting to see how much of the old offense he lets continue or will he look to make Indiana more successful by making them super boring.
Lagow may look the part but he needs to cut down on the interceptions to give this team a chance. Their margin for error is just too fine right now.
You can bet that Allen wants to run the ball and the Hoosiers have cranked out talent at RB lately but they are not really sure who is going to tote the rock this season for them.
Mike Majette is in the lead but he has not shown much the last couple of seasons.
Even though Allen is the new head coach can he still keep the defense on track? That is his bread and butter but sometimes units suffer when a HC is forces to focus on the whole team. If the defense slides back to norms this team is toast.
Indiana Hoosiers Prediction: 3-9
I am not sure what to make of Allen but either way this is going to be a tough season in Bloomington.
First off they get a rare conference game to start the season and will most likely be whipped by Ohio State. That could take its toll as they then have to venture to Virginia. Not a great team but they should be better than they were a year ago.
After that they get a couple of gimmes – FIU and Ga Southern – before B10 play really starts.

They are in the tougher division and there might not be a win on their conference schedule other that home at Rutgers.
I have to think Allen is safe for now but this season might just be building to see what the Hoosiers can go do on the hardwood under new direction later in the fall.
