Washington State Cougars 2015 NCAA Football Gambling Odds & Predictions

2015-16 Football Previews – (Pac-12) – Cougars

Another season under Mike Leach saw even more transformation to what we’re used to seeing from the pirate. A stagnant program for years, the Washington State Cougars brought Leach in to make some big changes and he has definitely done that. The pass game is thriving in Pullman, and you wouldn’t want it any other way with Leach at the helm.

It is going to be an exciting year for the Cougars who have some big pieces returning a lot more depth to work with after injuries ravaged the squad that past 2 seasons.

Come Apple Cup time, they could wind up being the top football team in the state of Washington, despite what their enemy in Seattle has to say about that.

Let’s break down the team’s strengths and weaknesses in 2015.

Team Strengths

This Cougar team is returning a hue number of starters in many units. The entire starting offensive line is back as well as all but 1 starter on the defensive line.

The running backs have returned and are looking to make the offense two-dimensional again. Despite losing two big pieces at receiver, the Cougs are bringing back three playmakers in Gabe Marks, River Cracraft and Dom Williams.

The team’s top linebacker, Jeremiah Allison, is back along with exciting sophomore Peyton Pelluer. On top of that, the secondary only lost one starter.

This Cougs team has more depth and experience than it has in years.

Team Weaknesses

The team has two glaring weaknesses that can make or break the way Leach likes to call games. Gone is Connor Halliday, one of the top gunslingers in the history of Washington State football. Replacing him, though, is a more than capable Luke Falk, who saw more than just a little action last season.

Also something to worry about is how one dimensional the offense became with the lack of running game. The top rusher last season for the Cougars tallied only 351 yards while the next guy wound up with 234 yards.

Those numbers can’t help a high powered offense and Leach must make sure these two backs step it up in a big way this season.

2015-16 Washington State Cougars Prediction: 6-6

The Cougars will see a vast improvement this season in every aspect of the program. 6-6 could very easily turn into seven or eight wins if they can hold leads or stay in games like they struggled to do last season.

With lots of returning players with starting experience, this team has a very bright future in the Pac-12 in the next couple seasons, and maybe beyond.
