Washington Huskies 2015 NCAA Football Gambling Odds & Predictions

2015-16 Football Previews – (Pac-12) – Huskies

Chris Peterson’s second year in as head coach of the Washington Huskies is going to be an interesting one. Coming into a team loaded with talent on the defense and not so much on the offense, he had to navigate tricky waters. He had to win using former head coach Steve Sarkisian’s players while trying to make his own changes along the way.

The results weren’t pretty record-wise, but they did have three players named as All-Americans. Now that they are gone, Peterson’s players are slowly moving in.

While nobody will admit it before the season starts, this is probably going to be a transition season for the Dawgs. The departures of several players left big holes in the depth chart and those that remain have little starting experience – with a few exceptions.

It’s time for Chris Peterson to prove that he really CAN coach.

Let’s break down the team’s strengths and weaknesses in 2015.

Team Strengths

Despite being ravaged in some of the position groups, the Huskies DO have some units returning some of their top players. The running backs are coming back minus John Ross, who is out for the season with injury. Lavon Coleman and Dwayne Washington, the team’s two starting running backs, are back.

And despite the early loss of Marcus Peters last season, the secondary returns Budda Baker, Sidney Jones and Kevin King. Last year’s leading receiver, Jaydon Mickens, is back as well.

Also a boost, is the return of the special teams crew. Corey Durkee, Cameron Van Winkle and Tristan Vizcaino are all back and should help the Huskies out.

Team Weaknesses

In a nutshell, the team was gutted this offseason. The 3 starting linebackers from last season, Shaq Thompson, John Timo and Hau’oli Kikaha are all gone. Starting quarterback Cyler Milers is gone as well as Troy Williams, who was set to take over for Miles.

All but one starting offensive lineman is gone. Marcus Peters is officially gone from the secondary. The top three defensive linemen Danny Shelton, Andrew Hudson and Evan Hudson are all gone.

You get the point.

2015-16 Washington Huskies Prediction: 3-9

It’s going to be a bleak season for Chris Peterson and company. While they are returning some pretty good talent, the holes left behind after last season are just too great to fill. The Huskies will struggle in a couple of their non-conference games as well as against opponents they usually have the upper hand over – particularly Washington State, Oregon State and Cal.

This season will be more of a measuring stick than anything while Peterson waits for his recruits to take hold at their positions.
