UCF Knights 2015 NCAA Football Gambling Odds & Predictions

2015-2016 Football Previews (AAC) – Knights

The AAC still has to be considered a mishmash league full of teams that wanted to go bigger (defectors from Conference USA) or didn’t get invited to the prom (Power 5). The UCF Knights probably fall into both camps, but there is no disputing that George O’Leary knows how to win and has in Orlando.

All American Conference College Football Preview – UCF Black Knights
Head Coach:  George O’Leary
2014 Record:  9-4
UCF Odds to Win AAC:  7/1
Win Total:  7

This group is always dangerous because nestled in the state of Florida they are able to get good talent and develop it. They have had some monster defenses and are getting better at producing offensive players too – see QB Blake Bortles and Breshad Perriman.

UCF shared the league title last season with a 7-1 conference record.  They should be in the mix again, but road trips to Stanford and South Carolina will be stiff tests early on. If they could win both they could definitely be in the conversation to crash the playoff party but this is not expected to be the program’s best team, especially with two new coordinators. Their AAC positioning will likely hinge on back to back games against Houston and Cincinnati.  All three of these teams have their strengths but none really stands out to me.

Strengths

If the Knights are going to repeat last year’s success, it will again be because of a strong defense. Up front, they have three senior linemen who can stop the run and get to the quarterback. These are NFL-calibre players, and UCF has more than one of them so they are going to be tough to gameplan against.

On offense, they are hoping for the continued development from Junior QB Justin Holman, who needs to take his ability to perform in the big moments and marry it with some consistency. Turnovers killed this team, but it looks as if he could be due for a breakthrough.

Weaknesses

Until proven otherwise, the Knights have a turnover problem. Holman threw 14 interceptions last season, and losing the ball probably cost the team three games that were tight.

This season, he will be operating with essentially a brand new set of receiver,s and that won’t make it any easier.

On defense, teams are definitely going to attack the UFC back seven. Only one starter returns back there, and even though they have a good record for finding speedy players to plug into the system, finding that many may be too much to ask all at once. A new defensive coordinator won’t make it any easier to fill those slots.

UCF Knights 2015-16 Prediction:  9-3

You have to hand it to the Knights for scheduling up. Taking on Stanford and South Carolina, both on the road, are going to be brutal tests. Both programs may be a little down right now, but those are going to be two tough physical battles.

I do think they can win either or both outright and will be looking to play them as underdogs on the road where UCF has a nice history of playing well.

In the league, I like their schedule. They avoid Memphis, one of the favourites this season, and only one road game looks like a challenge at Cincinnati. They have a chance to start fast and build some momentum before getting Temple, Houston and Cincy all in a row.

If they come out of that in good shape, another title could be on the horizon because their November is light.

I wouldn’t  want to be playing these guys in a bowl game because they are bound to be peaking by then.
