Cincinnati Bearcats 2015 NCAA Football Gambling Odds & Predictions

2015-2016 Football Previews (AAC) – Bearcats

Cincinnati has become one of the most consistent college football programs in the country. They may not be playoff-level good, but they have won at least eight games in every season since 2006, save one, and have been able to do so despite the fact they keep losing their coaches to bigger programs.

AAC Conference Gambling Lines – Cincinnati Bearcats

Head Coach: Tommy Tuberville
2014 Record:  9-4
Odds to win AAC:  2/1
Win Total:  7.5

The Bearcats may seem a little miscast in the AAC, and they come into the season with as good a shot as any to take the conference crown. It may not have been a likely landing spot for Tommy Tuberville a couple of years ago, but an 18-8 record shows he knows how to coach.

In Gunner Kiel, the Bearcats have one of the best quarterbacks in the nation and their offense should be able to have success with all of his top weapons from last year in the fold. Their non-conference schedule is challenging, but home with Miami (FL) and on the road at BYU are winnable games.

Not gimmes, but they should be in both games. The conference schedule has tough road tilts at Memphis and Houston which will probably determine if they repeat as champs (Co in 2014) or not. They have just as good a shot as anybody else in the AAC.

Strengths

It took a while for Kiel to find a home, but so far it looks like he was worth the wait. He will lead a passing attack that is definitely the strength of this team. It is quite possible they might have the best group of receivers in the country featuring monster target Mekale McKay at 6’6”.

On defense, this group is much stronger against the run than the pass. In the AAC, that is not too damaging, as there are only a couple of teams that really sling the ball around, but it is why Cincy will struggle against better teams from around the country.

Tuberville is a steadying influence overall.

Weaknesses

The passing game can overwhelm, but if you look at the numbers, the Bearcats win when they can run the ball. They are hoping for more from returning leading rusher Mike Boone to give the offense a lot more balance.

Even though they have a chance to practice against an elite passing offense, they haven’t parlayed that experience into success defending the pass. Per above, they have not been burnt too badly by this, but there is no debating that the secondary is the weak link on defense. Overall the defense needs to be stronger if the Bearcats are going to have a quality season.

Cincinnati Bearcats 2015-2016 Prediction: 9-3

Thanks to a strong offense, the Bearcats are certainly going to be in the race in the AAC this season. They are among the favourites, but will be facing a tough conference slate as they have to take on all of the contenders – Houston, UFC, Memphis  and even Temple.

If you are picking them to take the title, don’t give up on them too early, as they finish up in November with an easy slate against some of the weaker teams in the conference. In the non-conference games against BYU and Miami, there will be tests, but the Bearcats could certainly with both of those games.

If they do, they could get some playoff talk because those are national brands they would be beating. They would have to be perfect, which is possible for this group. Looking at the program right now, be ready to back them in underdog roles thanks to Kiel and their passing attack.

The same can be said for overs. They can throw against anybody.
