Bruins vs. Flyers Preview – Bruins lead series 3-0

The Bruins and the Flyers will both be trying to pick up a win tonight at the Wachovia Center.

Sooner or later, losing their top offensive stars had to catch up to the Philadelphia Flyers, who trail Boston three games to none in round two of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Could the same start happening to the Bruins?

It’s hardly been surprising to see the Flyers struggle to score against the stingy Bruins without Jeff Carter and Simon Gagne, who both broke bones in their feet blocking shots against the New Jersey Devils in the Eastern Conference quarter-final.

The Bruins haven’t had to score a ton to support Tuukka Rask in goal (though they’ve done a surprisingly decent job beating Brian Boucher, scoring at least three goals in every game against the Flyers).

But Simon Gagne appears on track to return tonight and finally give Mike Richards a quality winger again. Meanwhile, the Bruins are suddenly dropping like flies. Richards dislocated Krejci’s wrist with a huge hit in Game 3, knocking him out of the series, and the Bruins already lost Marco Sturm.

Gagne’s return could provide a nice momentum boost and the Bruins may get caught looking ahead to the conference final.

I think the Flyers have enough fight in them to survive one more game.
