The St. Louis Cardinals pumped some life back into their World Series hopes with a 4-2 comeback win over the Boston Red Sox on Thursday night, and now look to take a stranglehold on the series as it shifts to St. Louis for three straight games.
The Boston Red Sox will get their first look since 2008, at the Cardinals, when they host St. Louis in Game 1 of the 2013 World Series on Wednesday night at Fenway Park.
The Boston Red Sox and the St. Louis Cardinals have made it through the first two rounds of the postseason and will square off in the 2013 World Series. Boston will enjoy home field advantage in the Series because some Rangers and Orioles and Twins beat some Rockies and Marlins and Brewers in July (sounds silly when you put it that way, doesn’t it?).
Heading into the weekend St. Louis is tied with Pittsburgh atop the National League Central and all of baseball.
The Texas Rangers drew first blood in this series between former World Series combatants (2011). Texas took the first game and if they keep winning they might use this series to reclaim first place in the American League West. Not exactly a true measure of revenge but better than nothing.
The St. Louis Cardinals came into Friday night with the best record in baseball. As this is being written they were beating L.A 3-0 and looking to extend their lead in the National League Central. You have to hand it to St. Louis for always being so competitive.
The Cardinals played well last season and their offense did not miss a beat even with the departure of Albert Pujols. They made the playoffs, beat the Braves in the Wild Card round, and lost to the eventual champion Giants in the NL championship.
With the Reds running away with the NL Central the Pirates and Cardinals will have to chase the Wild Card to make the post-season. St. Louis and Atlanta are tied for the Wild Card lead while Pittsburgh is 2 games back.
The St. Louis Cardinals have overtaken the Pittsburgh Pirates for second place in the NL Central. Now, the Cardinals are trying to make another late charge toward the playoffs like they did last year.
Both the Rangers and Yankees have big cushions in their respective divisions and this match up may be a preview of a playoff series. The Yankees have a 5 game lead over the Rays in the AL East and the Rangers have a 6.5 game lead over the A’s.
The Giants won yesterday’s game against the Cardinals and they now have a 1.5 game lead over the Dodgers in the NL West. The Cardinals are still in the NL Central race, but they trail the Reds by 6 games.
After really struggling before and just after the All Star break the Dodgers are back on track and they are riding a 5-game winning streak. There is a good chance they will win their 6th straight with reigning NL Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw on the mound.
St. Louis started the season red hot, but they have fallen back to the .500 mark with a poor last month of play. Detroit dug a pretty deep hole in the AL Central, but they are slowly trying to fight their way back toward the top of the division.
The Cardinals haven’t done much in this stretch of Interleague play, going just 4-5 against the likes of Cleveland, Chicago and Kansas City.
Interleague baseball continues during the middle of the week this week. The White Sox and Cardinals aren’t separated by very much space on the map, but they don’t get a chance to play each other very often.
The Cardinals are still in first place in the NL Central even though they are coming off being swept at the hands of the Atlanta Braves.
