Daily Sports Roundup: August 14

Daily Sports Roundup: August 14

The National Football League heads north of the border on Thursday night to kick off the second week of its preseason schedule. Here’s your Daily Sports Roundup . . .

Event of the day . . .

The Buffalo Bills are starting to tap into the lucrative Toronto market this season, and it all begins with their exhibition game against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Rogers Centre on Thursday night (with the kickoff set for 7:30pm ET). And Bills supporters hope that their team will be lucrative at the betting window once again this season.

Buffalo went 7-9 straight-up in 2007, but they were 10-6 against-the-spread. Pittsburgh, on the other hand, was 10-6 SU last year, and only 8-8 ATS. For Thursday night the Vegas oddsmakers have pegged this neutral-site game as a pick’em, despite Buffalo’s proximity to Toronto. The total for the game has been set at 33 points.

Steelers starting QB Ben Roethlisberger should see just limited time on Thursday, with newly-signed backup Byron Leftwich getting more snaps. Don’t expect to see much of RB Willie Parker either. Bills starting QB Trent Edwards will be looking to bounce back from a poor outing in Buffalo’s preseason opener against Washington.

Rams vs. Titans Betting Preview | Pick

Saturday NFL Action – St. Louis vs. Tennessee

The St. Louis Rams face the Tennessee Titans on Saturday night in the first NFL Pre-season game for both teams. There are definitely some things for online NFL betting fans to pay attention to in this game as the Rams were hit by injuries to their offensive line last season. Now St. Louis has to deal with hold out running back Steven Jackson.

Jackson was hurt for most of last year. Holding out after being injured the year before probably isn’t the wisest move on Jackson’s part. But he did account for a lot of the offense when he was in the huddle last season. It will be interesting to see who the Rams start in place of Jackson on Saturday.

The Tennessee Titans are all about Vince Young. They sort of have to be after proclaiming him the next coming of Randall Cunningham. Okay, maybe it wasn’t the Titans that did that, but they aren’t living down the expectations regarding Young.

For online betting fans, the Titans could prove to be very capable at making profits this season. They should be better defensively and another year under Young’s belt has to be a good thing.

Here are the BetUS online sportsbook NFL betting odds for this game.

St. Louis Rams + 3 – 110 + 130 O 33 – 110
Tennessee Titans – 3 – 110 – 150 U 33 – 110

This is an NFL Pre-season game. To me that means it’s never a good idea to put up more money than you have to in order to win an online bet. The St. Louis Rams are + 130 on the BetUS online sportsbook. The Tennessee Titans are – 150.

Even though the Rams would need the three points in a regular season game, I don’t see them as underdogs in this game. The Rams have a lot more to work to do then the Titans at this point. I don’t expect to even see Vince Young take a snap. If he does in this game, then I guarantee you he will be pulled after the first series.

St. Louis needs to find a suitable quarterback to back-up Marc Bulger. Bulger has a tendency to get hurt. Bruce Gradkowski, who started a few games for John Gruden at Tampa Bay in 2006, could not only be a good back-up but he might battle Bulger for the starting job.

Who knows? I expect the Rams to come out swinging in this game. These two teams have been practicing against each other all week. They’ve already gotten into a few scuffles.

Why not take the long shot at the higher online wagering odds to win this game when there really isn’t a clear winner?

That’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to make an online bet on the St. Louis Rams to win this game straight-up at the BetUS online wagering odds of + 130.

The 2008 NFL betting season is coming, and if you like to bet on the NFL, you are in the best possible place for online betting.
