Even though Penn State (9-2) lost last week and they are still reeling from a scandal they still have a shot to play in the first ever Big 10 title game, but must beat Wisconsin (9-2) to get that chance.
Even though Penn State (9-2) lost last week and they are still reeling from a scandal they still have a shot to play in the first ever Big 10 title game, but must beat Wisconsin (9-2) to get that chance.
Iowa State (6-4) scored a big upset last week knocking Oklahoma State from the ranks of the unbeaten and ruining their National Title hopes and they can ruin Oklahoma (9-2) and their Big 12 title hopes with another upset.
Texas Tech (5-6) looked like a lock to make a bowl game a few weeks back when they shocked Oklahoma beating the Sooners in Norman, but they have lost 4 straight since then and must beat Baylor (7-4) to be bowl eligible.
The Huskers (8-3) are out of the Big 10 title race, but with a win over a legit Iowa (7-4) team they can improve the bowl they play in. Nebraska is coming off a bad loss to Michigan and they face an Iowa squad that has won 2 of their last 3 games.
If this game doesn’t have the exact same excitement and charged atmosphere that the earlier LSU-Alabama tilt had, it’ll be mighty close. This is an end of season SEC West clash that has oodles of conference title and National Title implications.
Texas has won 2 straight and the main reason is their 11th ranked rushing offense that has racked up over 400 yards on the ground in each game. Missouri is under .500 and they have lost 2 of their last 3 games, but all of their losses this season have come to teams that are currently ranked or have been in the top 25 this season.
Both these Big 12 teams have struggled lately losing their last 2 games and Texas A&M heads into this game shorthanded with leading rusher Christine Michael, who is out with a knee injury.
This season has not gone according to plan with these 2 teams from the Sunshine State, as Miami is still one win away from being bowl eligible at 5-4 and FSU is at 6-3 and had legit BCS hopes this season.
The Sooners moved up to #2 in the BCS polls with Alabama losing last week and to stay there they will have to beat Texas Tech in their house.
This game is a HUGE ACC match up, as the winner will be in the driver’s seat to win the Coastal Division and in an interesting fact the winner of the Georgia Tech vs. Virginia Tech game has represented that division in the ACC title game in the last 5 seasons.
Southern Cal had been dominating this match-up in recent seasons, until the Golden Domers exacted some revenge last season, pulling out a 20-16 victory.
In a cutthroat conference like the SEC, there just isn’t any room for “getting-there’s” and “nice try, buts…” The Tennessee Volunteers showed a lot of good things earlier in the regular season, but a combination of injuries and a lack of well-roundedness has the Vols staring down the barrel of an 0-4 conference start.
In recent seasons, “The Battle of the Tigers” has been a can’t-miss for SEC fans and college football fans alike. Conventional wisdom would say that some of the pinch has been taken out of the match-up with the departure of all-world Auburn QB Cam Newton, but Auburn is notoriously testy in big games.
As far as SEC West division match-ups go, this one seems to break pretty well for the visiting team. The home side Rebels haven’t looked good at all in 2011, poor play has been highlighted by no steadying presence under center and a slew of injuries and suspensions to important contributors.
Both of these SEC strongholds have hit turbulence in recent weeks. The Florida Gators have lost consecutive games – badly to West division stalwarts Alabama and LSU. Auburn, meanwhile, is coming off a 38-14 spanking at the hands of Arkansas.
The SEC West division is a two-horse race. If LSU has a manageable game this week in travelling to Tennessee to play the hobbled Volunteers, then the other top dog – the Alabama Crimson Tide – have an even easier task ahead of them in dispatching the Ole Miss Rebels.
