But once conference play opened up things went south and they dropped their first two games to Illinois and Penn State, both middle-of-the-road teams in the Big Ten.
The Penn State Nittany Lions hold their fate in their hands this weekend. All Joe Paterno’s team has to do is beat Michigan State and they’ll win at least a share of the Big Ten Championship and earn a trip to the Rose Bowl. If Penn State loses, the NCAAF sports betting picture gets a little cloudier.
The Iowa Hawkeyes (5-3 SU, 5-2 ATS, 2-5 O/U) are coming off two emphatic routs of Big Ten opponents in their last two games.
The Illinois Fighting Illini (4-4 SU, 3-4 ATS, 4-3 O/) have alternated wins and losses in each of their last six games.
It’s the Big Ten opener for both Illinois and Penn State as the Illini travel to Happy Valley to take on the Nittany Lions. Without a doubt, there is a buzz about this Penn State team. With the Ohio State Buckeyes suddenly beatable and Michigan rebuilding, the Nittany Lions are the favorites to win the Big Ten.
