NFL: JETS, PATS CONTINUE BORDER WAR

The rivalry between the New England Patriots and the NY Jets has been so intense over the years that it is simply known as the ‘Border War’.

New England is a 3 ½-point favorite over the Jets on Thursday night as they try to sweep the season series and move into sole possession of first place in the AFC East. The early betting for this game is roughly is 57% for the Patriots.

The Atlanta Falcons are one of the NFL’s pleasant surprises and they are 5 ½-point favorites at home over the Denver Broncos. A whopping 87% of early bettors like the Atlanta run game against the awful Denver run defense.

Another overachieving team, the Miami Dolphins, are 10 ½-point home favorites over the Oakland Raiders. Miami couldn’t cover a large spread at home last week over Seattle but 69% of the public thinks they can get the job done against Oakland.

The very hot New York Giants are 6 ½-point chalk over the Baltimore Ravens in the Meadowlands. This spread shows a lot of respect for this defensive-minded Ravens team, but only 13% of the early bettors like them at that number.

The Indianapolis Colts are 8 ½-point favorites over their AFC south rival Houston Texans. Indy is coming off a great win at Pittsburgh, while Houston had a real stinker against the Ravens, and 61% are willing to take the favorite in this game.

The Tennessee Titans are 10-0 straight up and 9-1 against the spread. So it’s not too surprising that 96% of the betting public is willing to give three-points to an underachieving Jacksonville team even with the Jaguars at home.

Philadelphia is giving nine-points on the road to the Cincinnati Bengals and 85% like their chances. Cincy got their first win of the year two weeks ago before their bye, but the Eagles need to start piling up wins if they hope to make the playoffs.

The New Orleans Saints are giving five-points at Kansas City even though the Saints are just 1-3 ATS on the road and the Chiefs have covered three straight games. That’s not enough to sway the early bettors as 96% like the ‘Boys from the Bayou’.

The largest spread of the week is Carolina giving 14-points at home to the winless Detroit Lions. Double digit road underdogs have done tremendous against the spread this year and 70% think that trend will continue and are backing Detroit.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are an undefeated 4-0 at home, while the Minnesota Vikings are only 1-3 on the road. That’s a big reason why 58% of the public is backing Tampa Bay who is giving 3 ½-points in this game.

San Diego coach Norv Turner is not a popular man in San Diego with his club’s below .500 record. Turner is also not liked by the betting public as only 3% are willing to take 4 ½-points at Pittsburgh with running back Willie Parker expected to return.

The Buffalo Bills are fading fast with a three-game losing streak , but they’re still five-point home favorites on Monday Night Football over the Cleveland Browns. So far, 68% of the bettors like the Bills over inexperienced Browns’ quarterback Brady Quinn.
