PGA Tour Golf Betting – World No. 2 Westwood is US Open No. 1 (16th June)

The 111th US Open commences at the Congressional Country Club on Thursday – only the third time the Major has headed to Maryland. In a field missing Tiger Woods, Lee Westwood is favourite to lift the trophy – although there will be stiff competition from Luke Donald, Phil Michelson and Rory McIlory.

Bet now with Pinnacle Sports to take advantage of the best PGA Tour US Open golf odds.

For the first time in 14 years, Tiger Woods will not be at the US Open. Even though he is only the world’s 15th best player at the moment, the Woods-shaped hole will be a huge psychological boast to those seeking their first Major victory – Lee Westwood 13.760* and Luke Donald 14.560*

In a season that has seen both men on outstanding form, it is Westwood who steps onto the course as favourite. The World No. 2 has been on scintillating form recently, finishing runner-up at Wentworth and picking up a European Tour victory May 1st at the Ballantines Championship. This followed a birthday victory at the Indonesian Masters on April 24th, where the Brit won by three strokes.

The 38 year-old is fast becoming this generation’s nearly-man, with three 3rds and two 2nds in his last 11 Majors. One of his 3rd-places came in 2008 at the US Open, while he also tied-fifth in 2000.

Donald is in an equally promising position having moved into the World No. 1 slot after his PGA Tour victory at Wentworth.

The technically-gifted Brit showed exceptional putter and chipping play en route to his victory; although some critics suggest the 7,574 yard Blue Course could prove too-long for his talents to show through.

Phil Mickelson 17.080*starts the tournament on his 41st birthday as third-seed – with the US Open being his ideal present. With three Masters and a US PGA victory under his belt is no stranger to Major victories – although thus far the US Open has eluded him. Pinnacle Sports Golf odds

A record five second-places in the competition means that the former Masters champion has a burning desire to win – even if his trophy cabinet for the past year only displays the Shell Houston Open

Rory McIlroy 22.480* is fourth favourite, with Pinnacle Sports thinking that the 22 year-old has a good chance of repeating his Masters performance – bar the final day collapse.

Fellow Northern Irelander and last year’s US Open champ Graeme McDowell 53.000* is ranked 13th, the odds noting his form downturn after last year’s success. The defending champion hasn’t won a PGA or Euro Tour since, has only made three top-10 stroke-play finishes and missed the Masters cut.

A victory for Martin Kaymer 27.870* would see him move back top World No. 1, while current Masters-holder Charl Schwartzel 70.720* will hope for his first victory since the Major.
