NHL news: Nikolai Khabibulin heads to jail
Edmonton Oilers goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin is off to jail. He was originally trying to appeal his 30-day sentence for extreme drunk driving.
Instead, he’ll forgo the appeal and serve his time.
He’ll serve the sentence between prison and his own home, where he’ll wear an electronic monitoring device.
Khabibulin was convicted not just for the DUI, but for excessive speeding.
His blood-alcohol level at the time was more than twice the legal limit in Arizona.
