MLS Weekend Preview

Did you know Major League Soccer Odds are live and ready to be bet on today!!!

The MLS began its 15th season this year and we’ve finally decided it’s time to give this league some handicapping love and provide some free SOCCER gambling analysis every week.

Major League Soccer handed out passes to all of its clubs when it scheduled a two-week break during the World Cup. The hiatus may help some of the teams regroup and rest injuries as well as retool their strategies for when the season snaps back into full swing on June 25th. Here I take a look at this weekend’s matches, giving you insight on making your MLS soccer wager a winner.

Kansas City +365 @ Toronto FC –140 / Draw +240 – 4:00p.m.
The World Cup break couldn’t have come art a worse time for an improving Toronto club. The Reds have won an impressive five straight and are succeeding at both ends of the pitch. They are led by dynamic scorer Dwayne De Rosario and the solid play of goalkeeper Stefan Frei. De Rosario was named the MLS player of the week after scoring two goals in a 3-1 win over San Jose. The Wizards aren’t enjoying the same results. Meanwhile, Kansas City is 0-5-2 since their last win back on April 10, and has netted just five goals during its winless streak. They are coming off a 4-1 lose to Real Salt Lake, being outscored by three goals for the second time in three matches. Toronto should make quick work of the Wiz in this one.

Real Salt Lake +165 @ D.C. United +145 / Draw +225 – 7:30p.m.
Real Salt Lake will be looking to extend its winning streak to six when it kicks off against a much-improved D.C. United that won a mid-week U.S. Open Cup play-in match on Wednesday, 2-1 in extra time. The victory was a serous boost to United who also dispatched Chivas USA last Saturday. In the meantime, the defending MLS Cup champs have league-best 21 goals, and has scored seven times in five road games. D.C. will try to keep the momentum going, and even though Real has struggled in the past at RFK, I expect them to post a win here.
Chivas USA  +272 @ New York –100 / Draw +230– 7:30p.m.

The last time these two sides met back in April, the Goats shut out the Red Bulls, but this rematch will most likely have a much different outcome. Led by the always-impressive Juan Pablo Angel, the Red Bulls will look to avenge that early season defeat. After winning its first two games, New York fell 2-0 to Chivas on April 10. The Red Bulls rebounded to win their next three, but dropped the next four before a 2-1 win over Houston on Wednesday. Chivas continues to struggle away from the Home Depot Center and this match should be no different.  If the Red Bulls can secure an early goal and disrupt Chivas USA’s rhythm in possession, this should be a cakewalk.

Houston +365 @ Los Angeles –140 / Draw +240 – 8:00p.m.
In a rematch of last year’s Western Conference final, the red-hot Galaxy will look to extend their unbeaten streak to 12, which would match their MLS record to open a season, when they host the fading Dynamo on Saturday. Los Angeles has been firing on all cylinders, even though the club is without its two best players. Houston fell to a second consecutive loss at New York on Wednesday in disappointing fashion. The Dynamo hasn’t quite found its stride this season with its uncharacteristic porousness on the backline being a primary factor in its stumbles. I expect LA to continue rolling in this one.

Philadelphia +400 @ Chicago –155 / Draw +250 – 8:30p.m.
The Fire will head into the World Cup break trying to stop a four-game winless streak when they host the expansion Philadelphia Union who are in search of its first two-match winning streak in franchise history. Philly will have a decent shot at following up last week’s shocking victory in Houston with a somewhat less surprising win over a Fire side that often struggles at home. With a win, Union could move into a fifth place tie with Chicago in the Eastern Conference. I expect this one to end in a draw.

San Jose +250 @ FC Dallas Even / Draw +225 – 8:30p.m.
Both clubs are struggling and would be happy just to earn a point their next outing. After a 3-1 home loss to Toronto, the Earthquakes salvaged a 2-2draw with visiting Columbus on Wednesday on Chris Wondolowski’s goal in the 79th minute. San Jose has conceded five goals in 180 minutes, and needs their defensive core to return to form at Pizza Hut Park where they have not played well, going 1-1-3. Despite all of its fine work on the ball, FCD struggles to apply the finishing touch in front of goal. They too are coming of a 1-1 draw at Chicago last Thursday. In San Jose’s last visit to Dallas, the teams played to a 2-all draw on June 7, and I expect this one to end in the same fashion.

Columbus +225 @ Colorado +110 / Draw +225– 9:00p.m.
The Crew leads the Eastern Conference by just three points after losing 2-0 to Los Angeles last Saturday, and then following up with a 2-2 draw at San Jose on Wednesday. They will now be tested for the third time in eight days against a Colorado side that has only given up seven goals–second fewest in the league behind Los Angeles. The Rapids will be looking for their third straight win after recording back-to-back 1-0 victories over D.C. United and Seattle. The teams’ two meetings last season were defensive battles, as they played to a 1-all draw in Colorado last April 11 and Columbus won 1-0 at home Aug. 1. I give this one to Colorado because of the altitude factor.

New England +365 @ Seattle –140 / Draw +240– 10:30p.m.
The Revolution had been shut out in three of their previous four games, but earned a crucial 3-2 win over New York last weekend, snapping a seven-match winless skid. The focus will now shift to third-string goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth as he replaces Preston Burpo who fractured his right leg in last Saturday’s match, as the Revs look to extend their new found win stretch to two with a road win against the Sounders. Seattle has been far less successful at Qwest Field this season, scoring four goals while posting a 2-3-1 mark. The Sounders also have a Western Conference-low nine tallies while finding the back of the net just twice during their current 1-4-1 stretch. As with most Sounders FC games this season, the final result will likely come down to whether Seattle can convert its chances. New England gets a 1-0 win in this one.
