Iran
Iran has a defensive style and will be likely mostly playing to keep scoring down in all of their matches. In those 4 friendly matches they only scored a combined 3 goals and two were 0-0 draws.
If they can somehow get a lead they definitely know how to stall out an opponent.
Though Iran is far from great they have only lost one game since last October.
I was surprised to see that Nigeria was not a bigger favourite in this one but I think that has more to do with them not being considered very strong as opposed to Iran being highly thought of.

The big factor in this one is who is going to get that first goal. If it is Iran they just might steal the victory. If not they probably don’t have much of a chance to collect any points in their group.
Nigeria
Nigeria may be the current Africa Cup of Nations champ but they enter this year’s World Cup without much fanfare. They have not advanced beyond the group stage since 1998 and are not likely to do so this year either.
They have a key injury to manage in Elderson Echiejile and were not that impressive in friendlies leading up to the World Cup with a 0-1-3 record.
At least they were challenging themselves though by playing Cup participants Greece (draw), Mexico (draw) and USA (loss).
Nigeria is just a slight favourite in this one. This is kind of surprising because if you do a quick scan I can not find anyone who is predicting a win by Iran – I guess the fear is the draw.
Nigeria will be the aggressor in this one and it would be a surprise to see them lose.
The Super Eagles are more experienced and will be desperate for this victory knowing they at least have a shot at making it past the group stage.
This is not a high profile game and in a political twist might not have much of an audience because in both nations are there bans in place to watch it publicly.
There is good value with Nigeria and on the draw but like so many others I don’t see Iran being able to steal the victory.
If you like Iran to perform well you need some other type of wager to consider.
