No team in Asia is more powerful than South Korea. They had been riding an undefeated streak of 27 matches until losing to Serbia and Zambia in a pair of friendlies and then to China in the 2010 East Asian Championships. The Taeguk Warriors enters this campaign enjoying its seventh straight appearance in the finals, including a semifinals appearance in the 2002 Korea/Japan World Cup.

It was the deepest run ever made by an Asian team in FIFA World Cup history.

Now the Taeguk Warriors will try to further that run in this year’s final under former Korea Republic midfielder, Boss Huh Jung-Moo. Huh who silenced his critics by guiding his side into the finals with two games to spare, is no stranger to the world stage, having scored a goal against Italy at Mexico in 1986 and later returning as a trainer and assistant coach for the USA in 1994.

The squad is led by Manchester United winger; skipper Park Ji-Sung who has played a key role in Korea Republic’s two previous FIFA World Cup appearances.

The multifaceted winger has the uncanny ability to create space, providing tons of scoring chances for his teammates. He will be surrounded by a number of other European stars, in particular 2009 Young Asian Footballer of the Year — forward, Park Chu-Young who’s thought to answer all of Korea’s goal scoring questions. The 24 year old is a crucial piece to the Korean assault for this World Cup and future tournaments.

Rounding out the squad is Ki Sung-Yong along with other rising stars like Bolton’s Lee Chung-Yong and FC Seoul forward Lee Seung-Ryu, all of who will give fits to opposing defenses.

Korea’s ride to the finlas was a bit bumpy as they barley managed top their group after two scroeless draws against their nemisis North Korea.

The Korea DPR once was a problem for the Taeguk Warriors in the final round, holding them to a 1-1 draw in Shanghai. However, they bounced back with consecutive wins over United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, before a crucial 1-1 draw with Iran in Tehran.

The followed with a 1-0 home victory in the Korean derby, and wtrapped it ll up with a 2-0 win against UAE on the road.

The Korea Republic went undefeated in the final stage of Asian qualifying by mixing experience with young talent. The Koreans are known for their fitness and being nearly flawless technically so it would be no surprise if they advance out of the group.
