NFL Week 5 Upset Alert – Cleveland Browns at Buffalo Bills

Game-day: 10/11/2009
Kick-off: 1:00 pm EST

Two of the bottom rung teams in the league, Cleveland and Buffalo, take each other on in a game that could go a long way in deciding the future of not only each team but of their respective coaches.

Since a terrific Week 1 loss to the New England Patriots, a game they should have won, the Buffalo Bills have struggled. The victory over Tampa Bay both straight up and ATS doesn’t really count as Tampa is awful.

The Cleveland Browns have just been a bad team in 2009. They did take Cincinnati into overtime last Sunday, but lost straight up by a field goal. Hiring Eric Mangini as coach might have been the worst move in Browns history.

Here are the BetUS online sportsbook NFL betting odds for this game.

Cleveland Browns +6 -110 +330 O 40 ½ -110
Buffalo Bills -6 -110 -260 U 40 ½ -110 [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Here are a few NFL online wagering trends for this game.

The Cleveland Browns are 4 and 1 ATS in their last 5 games on turf.
The Cleveland Browns are 1-6-1 ATS in their last 8 games versus an opponent from the AFC Conference.
The Buffalo Bills are 1 and 6 ATS in their last 7 games at home.
The Buffalo Bills are 1 and 5 ATS in their last 6 games on turf.

The trends point to no winner in this game. Of course that rarely happens in the NFL. The key in finding the best bet in this game is in studying the NFL odds that the BetUS odds makers have listed for each team.

Buffalo is currently at -260 to beat Cleveland straight up. Cleveland is currently at +330 to win straight up.

It’s rare that a team can put together two straight good efforts in a row when they are flat out terrible, but that’s what the Cleveland Browns are attempting to do. They’re also attempting to do it without their best player, who is now a Jet, former wide receiver Braylon Edwards.

Will the lack of Edwards make a difference? Maybe, but the odds lead me to a Browns victory straight up. There is no way that the Bills are -260 better than Cleveland. No way.

The bet is on Cleveland at +330 to win this game straight up.
