Free PGA Picks: 2015 John Deere Classic Golf Betting Preview

This Week’s PGA Tour Predictions!

The PGA pros head to Illinois this week for the 2015 John Deere Classic – another one of the easier stops on TOUR. In fact this event was the second easiest par 71 that the pros played last year – the cut was minus 4!

It is an event that players with either use to tune up for the Open Championship next week or will skip all together in favor of rest for the third Major of the year.

TPC Deere Run is a par-71 layout that stretches out to 7,268 yards with three par 5s. Obviously, length off the tee will not be crucial this week. Strong short games – particularly wedge play allowed Zach Johnson and Steve Stricker to dominate in the past – expect someone with similar touch to emerge again this week. Solid, accurate ball-strikers, those with good Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green and players with good putting numbers will be firmly on my radar this week.

With that in mind, who should we be keeping an eye on this week? Let’s take a look.

2015 John Deere Classic Favorites:

Jordan Spieth 3/1

Every time this kid tees it up he is going to be the favorite – period! He had his first PGA win here in 2013 and finished T7 in this event last year – his track history is terrific and his form is obviously off-the-charts. He has eight top 5s in his last 13 starts including two wins and two Majors. We know that he will be sharp as he tunes up for a potential third straight Major victory. You gotta love Spieth – you absolutely gotta!

Zach Johnson 9/1

Has eaten up this course the last six years – top 3 finishes in five of the last six starts at this event. He has eight top 20s in his last 10 starts and top six’s in two of his last four starts overall as well – his current form and sterling track record here points to a good week!

Kevin Kisner 16/1

Lost in a playoff last week and now has three playoff losses in his last six starts. His inability to close the deal is a bit of a concern but his present form is certainly impressive. He finished T20 on this track last year and should be in the mix again this week.

2015 John Deere Classic Contenders:

Ryan Moore 25/1

Has never missed the cut in six tries here including top 10 finishes in 2012 and 2014 and top eight finishers in two of the last three editions of this tournament. He has eight top 25s this season and may be due for a breakout in this slightly watered down field.

Steve Stricker 33/1

Has won this event three times and hasn’t been worse than T11 in his last six starts here. His current form isn’t great however – zero top 25s in over a year. If there is a track he will break through it is this one!

Tony Finau 33/1

Impressive rookie certainly deserves a win on TOUR. He has seven straight top 25s and enters off a T13 at the Greenbrier. Finau will win some time – or maybe he’s this year’s version of Graham DeLaet!

2015 John Deere Classic Sleepers (50/1 or higher):

Steven Bowditch 50/1

Has three straight top 25 finishes and won the Byron Nelson – consecutive top 15 finishes including a T13 last week. He’s been consistently good and has shown the ability to shut the door on his competition.

David Hearn 55/1

Lost in a playoff last week thanks to his putter – he led the field in strokes gained: putting. He lost in a playoff to Jordan Spieth and Zach Johnson here in 2013 and is definitely ramping up ahead of this week. Hearn is certainly an intriguing 55/1!

Jason Bohn 66/1

Enters off a T13 at Greenbrier and has made six of nine cuts at this event with four top 25s. He is T4 on TOUR in par 4 scoring average – something that will come in handy this week and his stats support the notion that he will have a good week.

2015 John Deere Classic Picks:

The pick this week is Zach Johnson at 9/1 – top 3 finishes in five of the last six starts at this event is just too hard to ignore! Spieth will have his head at St. Andrews and the other threat Steve Stricker isn’t in the best of form right now. Zach is in a tremendous position to get it done on arguably his favorite course in the world.

My sleeper this week is David Hearn at 55/1. His putter was sizzling last week and he may have been unlucky not to have won. Karma may pay him back this week!
