Just as Todd McClellan’s Sharks enjoy many huge runs up the standings every season, they lose focus once in a while and that’s happened over the last week. Joe Thornton cooled off and lost his NHL scoring lead, tallying just one point in three games.
The Kings aren’t feeling too good about their play either. After last Monday’s triumph in San Jose, they returned to Staples Center for a seven-game homestand.
So far, so bad: they’ve lost two straight on home ice. There’s no doubt the young Kings are absolutely blossoming this season, especially dynamic Drew Doughty, whom many pundits compare to a young Ray Bourque. But young players and teams still take their lumps and learn their lessons; the Kings are 1-5 in their last six one-goal games, suggesting that their inexperience leads to bad decision making at clutch moments.
The Kings will feel the heat a little bit tonight and the Sharks should come out angry, especially since coach McClellan was incensed on Saturday when his former team (Detroit) beat San Jose.
Look for a bounce-back effort.

San Jose will have defimitely have their last meeting with the Kings fresh on their mind. When teams that know each so well play games fairly close to one another I would tend to lean towards which ever team lost in the previous meeting. The fact that the Sharks are the better team makes picking them all that much easier.
