Last year Chicago set a new NHL record for most consecutive games earning at least a point to start a season with 24, and had the second-longest streak in NHL history for consecutive games earning at least a point with 30. While I don`t see that happening again, the Hawks should be right in the mix again this year for the best record in the NHL.

Chicago enters the season with one of the most impressive groups of forwards in the NHL. Jonathan Toews is perhaps the best and quietest leader in the game and is good for a point per game, defending Conn Smythe winner Patrick Kane had his best season statistically last year, breakout player Brian Bickell is back to prove that his contract extension was not a waste and youngsters Andrew Shaw, Jimmy Hayes and Ben Smith will play their tails off to crack this impressive lineup.

Marian Hossa who had 31 point in the shortened season is back and Patrick Sharp both battled injury last year but enter the season healthy. If they can stay on the ice, the Hawks have three stellar lines – all of which could be number one lines on a host of NHL teams. [ad-4437448]
Defensively the Hawks are absolutely elite as well. Duncan Keith had 27 points during the shortened season last year, Brent Seabrook is one of the more dependable D-men in the league and Johnny Odoya and Nik Hjalmarsson make up one of the better second units in the game. Michal Rosival, Nik Leddy, Sheldon Brookbank and Theo Peckham return to give Chicago some impressive cohesive depth. The Hawks are insane defensively – a terrific compliment to an insane offensive group.
A big question heading into last year was between the pipes for Chicago. All of those questions were answered during Chicago`s Cup winning run last year. Those of you who were non-believers in Mr. Crawford – BELIEVE!!! Crawford will likely have to be just OK for this team to go deep into the playoffs this year and Crawford is much, much better than OK.
Betting Prediction: The path to the playoffs got a little easier for Chicago when Detroit moved to the East and Minnesota and Winnipeg will move to the Central. Chicago wins the Central and looks to be on an inevitable collision course with LA for the Western Conference crown. These teams have alternated winning the West lately – it is LA`s turn. The main reason – the Hawks will have a huge majority of their roster playing in the Olympics in February – the year will be long, their travel will be ridiculous and their exhaustion level will eclipse those of the other teams.
Chicago bows out in the West final in seven games, regroups and wins it all in 2014-2015.
