The Toronto Maple Leafs have looked pretty solid so far early in the season. Ya, I said it! It’s true though. The Leafs have won two games this season and have won both. Remember last season when Leafs fans were wearing paper bags on their heads already? It took 14 games for the Leafs to win their second game last season!

There are seven Leafs with at least two points already and there are three Leafs with two goals. No longer does the offensive onus lay solely with Phil Kessel. They are scoring goals and they are killing penalties (7 for 7 on the season) unlike last season. Goaltender Jean-Sebastien Guigere has been solid and has given up just three goals in two games this season.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have a brand new building to show off but their play at home has gotten off to a slow start. They have lost both games at home while winning their only road game so far.

The Penguins slow start can be attributed to the fact that superstars Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin have only one assist apiece so far this season. All star goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury has also struggled out of the gate going 0-2 with a 3.08 goals against average and an .889 save percentage.

NHL Betting Trends:

The total has gone UNDER in 7 of Toronto’s last 10 games on the road
The total has gone UNDER in 11 of Toronto’s last 16 games
The total has gone OVER in 6 of Pittsburgh’s last 7 games when playing Toronto
The total has gone OVER in 6 of Pittsburgh’s last 7 games when playing at home against Toronto
The total has gone OVER in 6 of Toronto’s last 7 games when playing Pittsburgh
The total has gone OVER in 6 of Toronto’s last 7 games when playing on the road against Pittsburgh
The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Pittsburgh’s last 5 games at home
The total has gone UNDER in 7 of Pittsburgh’s last 9 games

NHL Betting Prediction:

Toronto has won their first two games – Bravo! The fact remains that they are still a bad team. The Leafs are 6-20 S/U in their last 26 games on the road. The wheels will fall off at some time for Toronto and my bet is that it all starts on Wednesday night.

NHL Betting Pick: Pittsburgh Penguins -180
