It should be a good NHL Betting matchup in San Jose on Monday night – both the Los Angeles Kings and the San Jose Sharks both have a lot to play for. The streaking Kings have a legitimate shot at hosting a first round playoff series – for San Jose the second seed in the West is in reach. Both teams are hot and both are looking to better position themselves for the impending playoffs.
The Kings have somehow weathered the injury bug and have gone 7-2-1 in their last 10 games and have won six of their last seven on the road. Without Anze Kopitar and Justin Williams in the lineup this squad is getting it done. Dustin Brown has been great and fill-in Trevor Lewis is playing very well. Some production from Dustin Penner would be nice – he is pointless in his last eight games!
Los Angeles will be in fine shape between the pipes on Monday – Jonathan Quick is 4-1-0 with a 1.75 goals against average, is 2-0-1 this season versus San Jose and he has been lights out on the road.
The San Jose Sharks have been on some kind of NHL Betting tear. They have gone 7-0-1 in their last eight games and have gotten themselves to where one more win will guarantee them a top three seed in the West.
San Jose’s offense has woken up and has gone from middle of the pack to number six in the league – all in very short order. Patrick Marleau is scorching, Devin Setoguchi is hot and Joe Pavelski is playing the best hockey of his career. And I haven’t mentioned Joe Thornton or Dany Heatley yet.
Antti Niemi will get the start for San Jose on Monday. He is 3-0-0 with a 1.00 goals against average in three starts overall and is 4-1-2 with a 1.81 goals against average in his last seven versus the Kings.
Betting Prediction: The Los Angeles Kings are 21-15-3 on the road this season and have won five of their last six away from home. However the Kings are just 8-18 in their last 26 trips to San Jose. The San Jose Sharks are 23-11-5 at home this season and have won five straight on home ice. The Sharks are 36-17-1 in the last 53 games against Los Angeles.
It is interesting to see the Kings as such a big dog in this game. Los Angeles is playing well and I think that their late season bonding will continue on Monday night. The Sharks know that they can take the foot off the gas a little bit – look what happened to Vancouver against Edmonton on Saturday night!
