The totally underachieving New Jersey Devils head to Chicago on Wednesday night to take on the defending Stanley Cup Champions who have been less than spectacular themselves lately. The Devils re off to their worst start in an eternity and are suffering from poor all around play – something that we are not used to from a devils squad.
Pick your area of the Devils game and I will show you why they are currently the worst team in the NHL. They average 1.54 goals per game and give up 3.23.Their power play is the worst in the NHL (7.3%) and their leading point producer is Dainius Zubrys who has seven points in 13 games. Not one Devil has more than three goals this season and $100 million man Ilya Kovalchuk has just three goals and three assists this year.
The Chicago Blackhawks lead the Central Division and are second in the western Conference but they have played the most games of anyone in the NHL. They have lost four of their past six games and have suffered a bit of a power outage since Marion Hossa was sidelined with an injury.
Despite losing nine starters in the offseason, the Hawks are still an elite team capable of overwhelming any team on any given night. At home they have been good and on the road they have been average. Lucky for them, on Wednesday night they are home to a New Jersey team that looks beaten and worn down already in this young season.
Betting Prediction: The Devils will be playing the last game on a six game road trip – a trip that has seen them go 1-4 and score only four goals. The Devils have been awful defensively this season – not a good sign when going against the fire power of the Chicago Blackhawks. New Jersey’s woes will continue on Wednesday night and Marty Brodeur may just come unglued!
