Two somewhat disappointing Western Conference teams square off on Tuesday night in Minnesota. The Canucks fresh off a 5-1 home in over Carolina look to climb above .500 for the first time this season while the Wild look to simply get to the .500 mark for the first time.
Vancouver has to be feeling good going into their game on Tuesday night. Not only did their backup goalie start and win a game, but Ryan Kelser, Mikael Sameulsson and Mason Raymond finally scored their first goals of the young season. With the Sedins already in mid-season form (7 points each), this team could be scary of the secondary scoring can sustain any sort of momentum.
Roberto Luongo (1-2-1, 2.46 GAA, .920 save percentage) should be back between the pipes on Tuesday and despite some unflattering numbers has actually looked decent this season.
The Minnesota Wild’s record is a tad disappointing, although they have only played four games. They have been scoring goals and Nicklas Backstom has been playing well in goal.
Minnesota should be a fairly well rested team having played their last game at home on Saturday night. They are 2-8 in their last 10 games but are just 3-9 in their last 12 games against Vancouver. If Vancouver wants to consider themselves an elite team, they will show up for this game. I think that they will.
