2013 NHL Power Rankings – Betting on NHL?

Dave B’s NHL Power Rankings – Nov 25, 2013

Two more weeks of NHL action is in the books – time to look at the risers and the fallers in the latest Power Rankings. There has been some shake-up atop the Rankings this week – the Avs and Ducks have come back down to earth a bit while the top 5 all reside in the superior Western Conference.

Let’s break it all down in Dave B’s bi-weekly edition of the NHL Power Rankings

1. St. Louis Blues (Two Weeks Ago: 4)

The Blues have gone 8-1-1 in their last 10 games overall including a win over the Bruins last week. Alex Steen is still scorching and the team itself has terrific special teams and five-on-five play. The Blues are a nightmare to play against and are your # 1 this week.

2. Chicago Blackhawks (Two Weeks Ago: 3)

The Blackhawks are as deep as any team in the NHL – four lines can and will hurt you. Add in the facts that they don`t take penalties and they have the fourth best record in the game? You can see why the Hawks after a slow start have steadily climbed the Rankings.

3. Anaheim Ducks (Two Weeks Ago: 1)

The Ducks have stumbled a tad – just 5-3-2 in their last 10 games overall but they still occupy top spot in the overall standings.

Dustin Penner has been a revelation and so has Anaheim`s play on home ice – 9-0-1 so far this year.

4. San Jose Sharks (Two Weeks Ago: 7)

The Sharks are another team like Chicago that has played very disciplined this year so far. They are just 5-2-3 in their last 10 games overall but have a stretch of games at home where they are stellar.

5. Colorado Avalanche (Two Weeks Ago: 2)

The Avs are just 6-4 in their last 10 games but had a great week beating the likes of the Hawks, the Coyotes and the Kings. They are still fifth in the league overall standings as well – pretty impressive that they have kept up their pace!

6. Boston Bruins (Two Weeks Ago: 9)

Have won three of their last four games overall – the blemish coming against the Blues in what was a heck of a game. They are leading the East and are barely outside the top 5 this week.

7. Minnesota Wild (Two Weeks Ago: 8)

Are off to the best start in the history of this club but they have a tough couple of weeks coming up on the schedule. On the heels of an 8-1-1 stretch over their past 10 games the Wild climb one spot this week.

8. Pittsburgh Penguins (Two Weeks Ago: 11)

The Pens have been inconsistent as they come – just 5-5-0 in their last 10 games but Evgeni Malkin is heating up, Crosby is Crosby and James Neal is finally back healthy. Marc-Andre Fleury has been terrific between the pipes to boot. This team is too good to be floundering around 8-12 on the Rankings – look for them to dramatically rise in the near future.

9. Phoenix Coyotes (Two Weeks Ago: 6)

Have lost three of their last four games overall but are still 6-2-2 in their last 10. They occupy ninth spot in the NHL overall standings and still have lost just once on home ice all season long.

10. LA Kings (Two Weeks Ago: 10)

The Kings have lost two straight in extra time but have been one of the hotter clubs in the NHL as of late – 6-1-3 in their last 10 games overall. Jonathan Quick`s absence from the lineup will certainly hurt – Ben Scrivens is no Quick!

11. Toronto Maple Leafs (Two Weeks Ago: 13)

The Leafs continue to ride the hot play of their goaltenders. They continually get outshot in games but come up with the W more times than not. The Leafs are just 5-4-1 in their last 10 games but are eleventh in the overall standings and deserve a spot in my Dirty Dozen.

12. Montreal Canadiens (Two Weeks Ago: 18)

The Habs have won three straight games – wins over the Wild, the Caps and the Pens has them inside the top 12 again. Max Pacioretty is heating up, David Desharnais is finally living up to his contract and Carey Price continues to be one of the best in the league.

13. Tampa Bay Lightning (Two Weeks Ago: 5)
14. Detroit Red Wings (Two Weeks Ago: 14)
15. New York Rangers (Two Weeks Ago: 17)
16. Washington Capitals (Two Weeks Ago: 16)
17. Vancouver Canucks (Two Weeks Ago: 12)
18. Dallas Stars (Two Weeks Ago: 19)
19. Nashville Predators (Two Weeks Ago: 20)
20. Philadelphia Flyers (Two Weeks Ago: 24)
21. New Jersey Devils (Two Weeks Ago: 23)
22. Carolina Hurricanes (Two Weeks Ago: 22)
23. Ottawa Senators (Two Weeks Ago: 15)
24. Winnipeg Jets (Two Weeks Ago: 21)
25. New York Islanders (Two Weeks Ago: 15)
26. Columbus Blue Jackets (Two Weeks Ago: 16)
27. Calgary Flames (Two Weeks Ago: 27)
28. Edmonton Oilers (Two Weeks Ago: 28)
29. Florida Panthers (Two Weeks Ago: 29)
30. Buffalo Sabres (Two Weeks Ago: 30)
