While both teams were disappointing early in the season only one teams has shredded their underwhelming ways and currently occupies a playoff spot – the Boston Bruins have lost two straight entering Tuesday night’s game but enjoyed a terrific 8-1-1 stretch before that.

The Dallas Stars are currently on the outside looking in and have lost three of their last four games including one against the woeful – they absolutely have to get it going or face the prospect of falling completely out of the playoff picture.

For the Dallas Stars, defense and goaltending has been the issue this season – period! The team continues to be one of the better offensive clubs in the game averaging 3.11 goals per games but surrendering 3.21. Need more proof? The Stars have allowed at least two goals in every game in 2015.

Kari Lehtonen should get the start in goal Tuesday night off an OK showing in a 3-2 OT win at the Rangers on Sunday. He is 22-12-8 on the year with a 2.94 GAA and .905 save percentage. Looking at the defensive numbers it is abundantly clear that it will be up to the Dallas offense to win Tuesday’s game.

Speaking of the Dallas offense they have seen downturn in their production lately – they have scored just 10 goals in their last four games. The good news is players other than Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn have picked up their game. Jason Spezza has three goals and eight assists in his past 10 games and Ales Hemsky has a goal and an assist in his last two games.

Seguin has 59 points in the season – second best in the league and should have little trouble getting up for the team that unceremoniously shipped him out of town. He has just one goal in his last eight games however – his worst stretch of the season.

The Stars will face a Boston team that has been average offensively but has struggled lately. The Bruins have failed to score more than two goals in three straight games ahead of Tuesday night’s clash and have eclipsed two goals only three times in their last eight games.

Chris Kelly and Loui Eriksson who was traded for Seguin each have just two points in their last six games, Dougie Hamilton has just one point in four games and Brad Marchand is pointless in three – not nearly good enough for a team that prides itself on balance and depth.

Off a 3-1 loss at the hated Montreal Canadiens Sunday, you can bet that Boston will be chomping at the bit to get a little frustration out.

Tuukka Rask has returned to his Vezina-trophy form and is giving the Bruins a chance to win each and every night once again. He is 8-3-2 with a .951 save percentage in his last 13 games overall. He has been a big reason that Boston’s Penalty Kill has killed off a terrific 49 of 52 opportunities against.

The PK will certainly be challenged against a Dallas team that has concerted on 10 of 28 power play chances since the All-Star break.

Rask may sit however – Nik Svedberg was recalled Monday after winning three of four starts in a conditioning stint.

He is 5-5-0 with a 2.22 goals-against average this season.

NHL Gambling Trends

• DAL are 1-7 in their last 8 Tue. games.
• Under is 13-5-9 in BOS last 27 vs. Central.
• BOS are 48-21 in their last 69 home games.
• BOS are 9-4 in their last 13 overall.

Boston won the only meeting of the season between the two teams but could be in trouble here. It is a classic matchup of the Dallas offense and the Boston defense. With Tuukka Rask looking as though he may sit, the advantage swings to Dallas.
