It took over three months for these two long time Eastern Conference top dogs to finally meet, and it should be a great game as both teams have been playing great hockey of late.

The Rangers are one of the hottest teams in the NHL with wins in eight of their last 10 games while the Bruins are on a four game winning streak.

Rangers

The blue shirts returned home from a very successful trip through California where they got an uncommon three wins in one of the toughest stretches in the league.

As is the norm in the NHL, the Rangers returned home a little strung out from the road and were beaten soundly by their state rivals from Long Island 3-0.

The Rangers will be looking for a big bounce back in a game that won’t be a walk in the park by any means.

Henrik Lundqvist had an off night against the Islanders and was pulled after giving up three goals, but the Rangers just didn’t play a very good defensive game at all and were out shot badly by a count of 44-27.

Expect New York to come out a lot stronger tonight on the road where they have been very solid this year with a 11-6-1 record.

One point of concern in this one might be the fact that the Rangers have not been a good team against the Atlantic Division with a record of 4-7 and is the division they’ve had the most trouble with this year.

Bruins

Boston fans are probably breathing a little more comfortably since the team has found a bit of consistency and put together a four game winning streak.

Be wary of this team though as they’ve run off win streaks this year before and turned around and played very poor for weeks at a time, which has lent to them being nowhere near the top three in the East where they usually find themselves.

That four game win streak should be taken very lightly as well as those wins have come against a bad New Jersey team, a really bad Philadelphia team, a Tampa team that isn’t playing well and is also a team that Boston always beats anyways.

The only win that may be worth anything is an OT win over the Penguins.

The offense has woken up a bit for the B’s which they need as their defense just isn’t the same as it was for the past four or five years. Zdeno Chara is aging and the rest of the group is still trying to plug those gaps.

Rookie David Pastrnak has injected a lot of life into the forward group after a great showing for the Czech Republic at the World Junior Hockey Championships.

The 18 year old has four goals in three games since being plugged into the lineup.

Rangers vs. Bruins 4* Free Pick

Expect this one to be tight checking and low scoring. A Rangers team that played terrible defensive hockey their last time out will be looking to buckle down and play a typical road game where they slow the game and take the crowd out early.

The Bruins are a bit offensively challenged so they’re not going to look to get into a track meet with a Rangers team that is more talented up front.

Boston isn’t the same shut down team they once were but Claude Julien still knows how to put in a boring game plan to keep the scoring low.

I think this game is headed to OT or shootout where neither team really excels.

I’m leaning towards the Rangers in this one though.
