Hockey Betting – Caps, Pens go down to Game 7

Hockey betting players have been treated to one of the most exciting series in recent memory in the NHL playoffs, and it’s only right that Washington and Pittsburgh come down to a seventh and deciding game. The Capitals are the sportsbook favorites at home, and in a series that has features five one-goal games and four overtime games, those who are betting online can expect a nailbiter.

Penguins vs Capitals odds – Wednesday, May 13, 7:00 PM ET

Sidney Crosby, Bill Guerin, Kris Letang and Mark Eaton got on the scoresheet, but it wasn’t enough as the Penguins dropped a chance to eliminate the Capitals in Game 6’s 5-4 overtime loss, and a large part of the blame has to fall on the shoulders of goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury, who stopped only 19 of the 24 shots he faced. Evgeni Malkin added three assists for the Penguins, who were 2-of-5 on the power play, and they also outshot the Capitals by a wide margin of 42-24.

Simeon Varlamov stood on his head to keep the Capitals, particularly in the first period when he made 17 of his 38 saves in the contest.

Viktor Kozlov potted a pair, with singles from Tomas Fleischmann, Brooks Laich and Dave Steckel, who tipped in Laich’s point shot for the game-winner 6:22 into overtime. Alex Ovechkin and Alex Semin combined for five assists for the Capitals, but the story of the game was the work of young Varlamov, who has pretty much won the starting job in Washington for next year.

NHL odds favor the Capitals at -130 in this do-or-die situation, and with all of the offensive power in this series, the game-winner will probably be scored by one of the secondary players, someone like a Letang or Steckel, who both have overtime winners. It’ll all come down to goaltending, and you can bet that Fleury will be eager to erase his poor performance in Game 6. Varlamov has had an amazing postseason, but Fleury’s experience from last year’s playoffs, along with the stinging memory of Game 6, will be the difference. It’s really a shame this series has to end, as it’s been a joy to watch to hardcore hockey nuts, as well as the casual fan.

This one has all the makings of World War III. Whomever puts the puck in the net last will win. Caps find a way at home to finally end this series, probably in OT.

Crosby showed he was the better man in this one. They jumped on the Caps early and kept their foot on the throat. I would love to see a Pens -Red Wings final as that seems to be the best match up left.
