The Detroit Red Wings travel to Nashville on Saturday night attempting to take their fourth straight game from their Central Division rival. There are only two points separating the eighth place Wings and the fifth place Predators in the Western Conference standings, so there is a lot to play for.
The Detroit Red Wings have finally started to live up to expectation and have now started to serve notice to the rest of the league that they are back and looking to return to their third straight Stanley Cup final. The Wings are now six points up on ninth place Calgary and can breathe a little easier knowing that they are playing superb hockey and that the teams are chasing them are not.
The players that were supposed to be the kingpins behind a Wings’ successful season have finally stood up and are definitely being noticed by the rest of the league. Henrik Zetterberg has eight points in his last five games, Valtteri Filppula has eight points in four games and Todd Bertuzzi has five points in his last four games. All have helped the Red Wings outscore their opponents 21-8 during a four game win streak. Jimmy Howard is top five in the NHL in goals against average and save percentage. Look out world, the Wings are ON FIRE!
The Nashville Predators continue to defy hockey logic by remaining competitive with a roster full of no name talent. They are coming off a win against an uber-hot Phoenix team and they are 8-2 in their last 10 games. The Preds are a good team that should give their eventual first round playoff foe fits. 
The Predators have nobody that is really hot, but they haven’t had a hot player all year. They are middle of the pack in defense and offense in the NHL but do boast a League-high nine players with 30 or more points. The Predators are a team that relies on “system hockey” rather than flash and Coach Barry Trotz has an incredible knack of getting his team to buy into his team concept.
Saturday’s match is a battle between two good teams. They have a combined 17 of a possible 20 points between them in the last 10 games. The Wings should be favoured in this game but the Preds are good enough to put a stop to the Wings hot streak. I’m going with the upset (if you can call it that).
