The Montreal Canadiens kick off their stretch drive with a crucial game against Original 6 companion and Eastern Conference foe, the Boston Bruins on Tuesday night as part of a heavy schedule in the NHL. The Canadiens and Bruins sit seventh and eighth respectively in the Eastern Conference standings and will both be looking to put some space between them and the lurking non-playoff teams.

The Montreal Canadiens have been the quintessential average hockey team this year. They go on a winning streak only to fall back to .500 and when they dip below .500 they always manage to creep back. One thing is consistent however and that is their hovering around that .500 mark.

The Canadiens have had their share of injuries this year but they are expecting Benoit Pouliot, Andrei Kostitsyn and a mysteriously questionable Andrei Markov in the lineup against Boston while their super sniper Mike Cammalleri appears to still be a couple of weeks away from return.

Montreal can take one thing into the stretch drive and that is the fact that the goaltending situation appears to be a bit clearer. Jaroslav Halak has emerged as a quality #1 and solidified his role with a strong Olympic campaign for Team Slovakia. Scott Gomez has being playing better for the Canadiens and if Cammalleri can return from injury sooner than later, the Canadiens could be a playoff team. As it stands right now however, they appear to be a piece or two short. Sports Betting at the Sportsbook

The Boston Bruins have been an interesting team this season. After a terrific start to the season, the Bruins found themselves in the midst of a team record eleven game losing streak ½ way through the season. The fact that they are still in the thick of the playoff race in the Eastern Conference is a testament to the strength and character of their team.

Early season standout and Team Canada member Patrice Bergeron has disappointed after return from a wrist injury, but he has been picked up by other lesser know players on the Bruins squad. Milan Lucic is back and adds an element of grit to the likeable Bruins roster. With Tim Thomas and Tukka Rask minding the net for Boston, they look to be as complete a team as there is in the East.

Look for the Bruins to come out flying on Tuesday night and reestablish themselves as a force in the East.
