Week 17 NFL Lines: Titans vs. Seahawks

Point spread, ATS odds, and moneyline betting and preview article for the 2009 Sunday Football Week 17 NFL clash between the Tennessee Titans and the Seattle Seahawks…

Sunday NFL Betting – Seahawks To Mail In Another Game

The Seattle Seahawks have been one of the worst teams in the NFL this year and they are set to be this way for years to come. The Seahawks have been outscored 106-24 in their last three games and they have a look of a team that is ready to rebuild.

The Seahawks defense is brutal, the secondary has leaks and the defensive line is lacking. On offense, for the first time in years there are questions as to whether Matt Hasselbeck still has the arm strength to lead this offense while the receiving corps is overpaid and underachieving.

Chemistry issues have also surfaced as the Seahawks wideouts got on local radio this week and started talking about the team’s problems. The Seahawks are in disarray and with an old roster whose window of opportunity has closed, they appear to be set for rebuilding.

While they won’t be exerting much of an effort this week, the Tennessee Titans are trying to get back to .500. They started 0-6 so an 8-8 finish would be huge heading into next year. Running back Chris Johnson is also just 128 yards should of 2000, so the team will be trying hard even though a playoff berth is not on the line.

Titans offense versus Seahawks defense

The Seahawks defense is typically weaker in pass coverage than rush defense, but that hasn’t been the case in recent weeks. The Seahawks have given up 287 rushing yards in the last two weeks and a motivated Chris Johnson will be ready to gash them.

The big issue for the Seahawks defense is effort. They just haven’t been game the last few weeks and they have nothing to play for. The Titans shouldn’t have a tough time running over them.

Seahawks offense versus Titans defense

The Seahawks offense has produced just 24 points in the last three weeks and has topped 20 points just once in the last seven games. Clearly, they have some chemistry issues.

Hasselbeck isn’t 100% healthy and he’s not on the same page with his wide receivers, who all want the ball. On top of that, his arm strength has been weak and he hasn’t been able to make quality throws in the second half of the season.

Beyond that, the coaching staff is being questioned and the guy who was supposed to save the franchise, Mike Holmgren, spurned the team to take over the Cleveland Browns. Nothing is going right for Seattle and they clearly have only one option: rebuild.

Outlook & Pick

When you look at the Seahawks roster, they appear to have talent but the production just isn’t there. They have a roster of older players whose skills have deteriorated and while they look alright on paper, they have tons of issues on the field.

They have been blown out by the Houston Texans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Green Bay Packers in the last three weeks and a motivated Titans squad, who will be looking to help Vince Young end the year on a high note and help Chris Johnson reach 2000 yards, will blow them out for a fourth straight game.

Pick: Titans -6

This game will be the Chris Johnson show as the Titans will do everything in their power to get him as many rushing yards as possible to break 2000 for the season as well as potentially Eric Dickerson’s all time record.
