Week 14 Panthers vs Patriots NFL Predictions

In Week 14 betting action on Sunday the its the Carolina Panthers and the New England Patriots meeting up. We preview and pick this week 14 game that has the Patriots picked to win by 13.5…

NFL Football Odds: Carolina vs New England

Sunday, December 13 – 1 PM ET
BetUS NFL football odds: NEW ENGLAND -13.5, Total 44

The Patriots are listed as a 13.5-point favorite, with a posted total of 44 points.

Carolina got itself a win against Tampa Bay last week, and that came because the Panthers, who had been victimized by turnovers all season long (namely Jake Delhomme’s 18 interceptions) turned that stuff into their favor against rookie quarterback Josh Freeman, who tossed five footballs into the hands of Carolina’s defenders.

Matt Moore also minimized his miscues, for the most part, and completed 14 of 20 passes. Moore is now 4-0 ATS in the football odds as a starting quarterback, but he still didn’t move the Carolina offense for appreciable numbers. In fact, his team (which got 161 passing yards from him) was outgained by a 469-309 margin by the Bucs. DeAngelo Williams had to sit out the game, and he is hurting with an ankle injury.

Here are some NFL Online Sports Betting trends as they relate to this matchup:

CAR has covered four of its last six games
CAR has played four of its last five games UNDER the total
CAR has lost four of its last six road games SU
CAR has played seven of its last ten road games OVER the total
NE has won 11 of its last 16 games SU
NE has played four of its last six games UNDER the total
NE has covered four of its last five home games
NE has won its last seven home games SU Football Picks
NE has played six of its last nine home games OVER the total

That’s not likely to get the job done against New England, which can more easily set down on the run and make Moore beat them with his arm. Then, if you have to work your coverages, you concentrate on blanketing Steve Smith and let Moore find someone else. Bill Belichick is not a guy who has to be told. Don’t get me wrong; Moore can probably throw it deep a little better than Delhomme could, but let’s see if he gets the time to do it.

We’ve seen both teams struggle a bit in getting the ball in the end zone. New England has scored a total of 38 points in the last two weeks, and for example, tallied nothing in the last 27 minutes of their game in Miami last week and sustained a couple of interceptions by Tom Brady. Carolina has 39 points over the last three ballgames. New England, at home, is the team more likely to rebound with a better effort on offense, and after two straight losses, now their position as AFC East leader is being threatened. Remember that the Pats are in a good trend spot as far as the odds are concerned, as they’ve covered four of their last five as a home favorite. Also note that they have five double-digit victories under their belt already.

Sure, Carolina played great red zone defense last week, but do you think they will be able to force that many mistakes against Brady? Do you think they’ll be able to score? I have a certain amount of faith in the Panther defense, which has 17 interceptions and has yielded more than 21 points to only Miami and New Orleans since the second week of the season. Let’s move under that 44-point total.

The Patriots are not nearly as dominant a team as they have been in past seasons, but I would never bet against them or count them out when it comes to doing some damage in the playoffs. Today they get back on track with a convincing win over the Panthers.
