NFL Football Betting – Tennessee Titans at Detroit Lions

The Tennessee Titans (10-1 SU, 9-1-1 ATS), looking to rebound from their first loss of the season, couldn’t find a better place to do it than Ford Field when, on Thanksgiving, they will take on the Detroit Lions (0-11 SU, 4-7 ATS) in NFL pro football sports betting action that is slated for a 12:30 PM ET kickoff on Thursday.

Here are some NFL football betting trends as they relate to this matchup:

* TENN is 9-1-1 ATS this season
* TENN has won and covered its last five road games
* TENN has played six of its last seven road games UNDER the total
* DET has covered five of its last 19 games

The Titans had almost no business on the field last week against the Jets. They gave up 409 yards, including 192 on the ground, while getting just 45 rushing yards themselves. It was a sobering experience for this team that was 10-0 going in, and even though a loss had to happen sometime, it wasn’t expected to be quite that way. Now we’ll see how Tennessee responds to the smacking around they took last week.

Detroit got off to a 17-0 lead last week against Tampa Bay, but one of those touchdowns was on a fumble recovery. They were outscored 38-3 the rest of the way, chalking up just nine first downs and 207 total yards (Kevin Smith, the rookie running back, had 86 of those years). Daunte Culpepper was 8 for 20 for 121 yards. He was removed in favor of Drew Stanton, then had to go back into the game after Stanton got a concussion.

This defense is also made to order for Tennessee’s safety-first passing attack, as it has only two interceptions on the season. And let’s see how Chris Johnson and LenDale White (45 combined yards vs. New York) get slowed down as well. The Lions stop nobody on the ground (4.9 ypc allowed).

Tennessee has surrendered 15 points per game, which is slightly more than Detroit margin of defeat (13.9 ppg). Detroit was once very dangerous playing on Thanksgiving day, but they have failed to win or cover the last four years on the holiday. And they haven’t covered at Ford Field either, losing four of their games by margins of 23, 24, 27 and 18 points. Rod Marinelli is chasing perfection of a sort; that is, if he gets to the finish line.
