Week 12 Texans vs Colts NFL Predictions

NFL Sportsbook Week 12 – Houston Texans vs. Indianapolis Colts (-3)

NFL: Texans in Must Win Game against Undefeated Colts
Game-day: 11/29/2009
Kick-off: 1:00 pm EST

The Houston Texans blew their Monday game against the Tennessee Titans, losing 20 to 17 as 6 ½ point favorites in the NFL sportsbook, and now face a must win game this Sunday. Houston is 5 and 5 straight-up and considering how many playoff contenders there are in the AFC, Miami and Baltimore are both 5 and 5, Pittsburgh and Denver are 6 and 4, any loss, or win, from here on out is going to vault you into playoff contention.

Unfortunately for the Texans, their must win game this week is against the 10 and 0 Indianapolis Colts. The Colts proved that luck was on their side once again as they held off the pesky Baltimore Ravens this past Sunday. In a way, the Ravens gave the game to Indianapolis by providing two turnovers to the Colts in the final few minutes of the game, but make no mistake, the Colts are a good, good team. You don’t go 10 and 0 straight-up in the NFL unless you are a good team.

Houston will take comfort in the fact that they played the Colts very tough in Week 9. Houston kicker Kris Brown, ala this past Monday when he could have given the Texans the lead, missed the tying field goal against the Colts the first time these two teams met. That means that Houston played Indy very well.

Below are the NFL odds for this game.

Indianapolis Colts -3 ½ -110 O 48 ½ -110
Houston Texans +3 ½ -110 U 48 ½ -110

Here are a few online betting trends for this game.

The Indianapolis Colts are 4 and 0 ATS in their last 4 games on grass.
The Indianapolis Colts are 6-2-1 against the spread in their last 9 games versus an opponent from the AFC Conference.
The Houston Texans are 7 and 1 against the spread in their last 8 games as the underdog.
Football Picks
Now, let’s take a look at how the offenses and defenses matchup in this game.

Colts Offense vs. Texans Defense

The Colts offense is ranked third in the league but only rushes for, on average, 85 yards per game. It’s surprising that the Colts are still undefeated considering how anemic they are on the ground.

In the last game between these to teams Indy put up only 72 rushing yards. They barely escaped with the victory. If that happens again, then the Texans definitely might win this.

The key is pressure on Peyton. Houston sacked Peyton twice in the first game and figure to put tons of pressure on him this Sunday in the second game. If they can put Peyton on his back a couple of times, and then force him to make an errant throw or two, then things could get really bad for the Colts.

Houston’s defense hasn’t allowed a team to put up more than 21 points in 5 straight games. It’s come together nicely and the one dimensional Colts could be in for a very long afternoon if Houston’s D can provide just a bit of pressure on Manning.

Colts Defense vs. Texans Offense

In the first game between these two teams, Houston QB Matt Schaub threw two interceptions and flat out was confused by the Colts’ Cover 2 defense. That might not happen in this game because Schaub has been one of the better signal callers in the NFL this season with a 98.2 overall QB rating.

He will find Andre Johnson for some big gains against the Colts’ ravaged pass defense and if RB Steve Slaton gets into it, the Colts could have some troubles defensively.

Indy allows over 107 rush yards per game and 218 pass yards per game. Somehow, someway, the Colts’ bend but don’t break defense is working as teams average just over 15 points a game against them.

The Best NFL Bet Is…

On the Houston Texans at +3 ½. The Texans have a very good offense and their defense is better than it looked this past Monday against the Titans.

Also, nobody can tell me or any other gambler that Houston wasn’t looking past the Titans to this game on Sunday. Well, the game is almost here. Time to put up or shut up, Texans.

I believe that they will put up. Or, put out in this case as they will need around 24 points in order to beat the Colts straight up. How about the Texans lose 24 to 27 and all is good in the world because of the ½ a point?

I’ll take it. The bet is the Texans plus the points in this game.

  1. The pressure of remaining undefeated builds each week for the Colts and they are liable to stumble this week against the Texans. Houston had a chance to win the first game between these two teams, and this time they may actually get it done.
