Tennessee Looks to Continue Hot Streak Against Houston

Vince Young has made 2009 the year of his resurrection. Many consider him one of the greatest college football players of all time, and a national title game against USC certainly bolsters that opinion.

In the NFL, however, he has been a huge bust since being drafted third overall. He lost his starting job to Kerry Collins last season, nearly disappeared in the trenches of his own immature depression, then suddenly found his groove after watching the Titans go winless in six games this season. Now the Titans are 3-0 SU/ATS since Young’s insertion at quarterback. Can they keep this up against Houston?

Of course, Tennessee’s sudden success can’t all be credited to Vince Young, but VY’s ability to scramble outside of the pocket for positive gains has made defenses keep a spy on him freeing up running lanes for Chris Johnson.

The man who wants to be known as “A Coach’s Dream’ is the first and only player to breach the 1,000-yard ceiling on the ground and his insane 121.8 yards per game average is only compounded by his 9 touchdowns overall this year.

The Texans have had all sorts of trouble stopping the run, ranking just 22nd at home with 119.8 yards allowed on the ground. Forget LenDale White, this Titans team can move the chains with Vince and Johnson in the backfield.

Tennessee also has an incredibly strong history against their AFC South division rival. Though they’re just 2-5 ATS on the road in their last 7 games, they’re 5-2 ATS when playing Houston and are 7-2 SU in their last 9 games against the Texans.

As road dogs, they’re one of the most attractive bets on the board…especially when it comes to watching another Sunday Night betting game that makes me want to vomit with pure joy pumping through my soul.

The Texans have had two whole weeks to plan for this game, and have probably been a bit rattled by the sudden surge from the Titans. However, the Texans are a strong 11-4-1 ATS in their last 16 games and have the aerial attack to keep this game very competitive.

Matt Schaub has seriously come in to his own after dealing with some nagging preseason injuries, leading the Texans to 221.5 yards per game when playing at home. Steve Slaton, who has been battling fumble-itis all year, is a dual threat out of the backfield and Tennessee hasn’t been tested fully on the ground in the past three weeks. Slaton will give the Titans a handful alone, and Matt Schaub’s mere presence means they can’t stuff eight in the box every play to stop him.

But how can you resists a team on an unbelievable hot streak like the Titans? They’ve outscored their last three opponents 105-57 (Buffalo, San Fran and Jacksonville) and are clearing the spread in leaps and bounds.

Take the road dog because AFC South games are always tight. But I love the cushion in this game for the underdog. Take it and be thrilled as these two put on a display that will keep you up all night on Sunday.

If the Texans cannot contain Chris Johnson they will be in for a long night. They need to stack the box and force Vince Young to try and beat them with his arm. This is a big game for Houston if they hope to be a playoff team.
