Week 11 NFL Lines: Redskins vs. Cowboys

Point spread, ATS odds, and moneyline betting and preview article for the 2009 Sunday Football Week 10 NFL clash between the Washington Redskins and the Dallas Cowboys…

Sunday NFL Betting – Redskins In Tough Against Cowboys

The Washington Redskins and Dallas Cowboys rivalry typically produces tight, close contests. That might not be the case this Sunday for a number of reasons.

The Redskins defense has been decent this year and the addition of high-priced defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth has had a ripple effect. Last year, the Redskins had just 24 sacks but as they head to Week 11, they already have 24 sacks on the year and are on pace for 45, which is their highest total since 1991.

There are conflicting reports, but it appears that Haynesworth will either miss Sunday’s contest or will be severely limited if he does play. That’s a big blow to a defense that will be facing a power running game and an offense that can produce big plays through the air.

After a sluggish offensive effort by the Cowboys last week, look for them to bounce back with a big offensive outburst on Sunday

Redskins offense versus Cowboys defense

The Redskins will again be without stud running back Clinton Portis and while they got away with it last week, they won’t two weeks in a row.

This is a retooled offensive line that is being held together with duct tape and shoestrings right now. Last week, Levi Jones, who was basically a street free agent a couple of weeks ago, started at left tackle. While they held up against a Broncos defense that is diminishing, going on the road to dominate a tough Cowboys unit is a different story.

Prior to the Redskins 27-point “outburst”, they hadn’t scored more than 17 points in a game this season. More importantly, they have played most of the worst teams in the league and they have averaged just 14.1 points per game aside from last week’s outing.

Cowboys offense versus Redskins defense

The Redskins do have the fifth-ranked defense in the NFL, so the Cowboys are going to be facing a stout unit. They’ll have to be patient, they’ll have to win the time of possession battle and they’ll have to avoid mistakes.

The good news is that those are relatively easy tasks to accomplish for a division leader.

The Redskins aren’t going to score much in this game so if the Cowboys get back to what made them successful over the last month – pounding the football – then they will get opportunities sooner or later.

Beyond that, with Haynesworth potentially out, Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo should have time to find holes in the Redskins secondary. The Redskins defense has given up seven plays of 30 yards or longer in the last three games.

Outlook & Pick
The Redskins took advantage of a team that was downtrodden last week but now they’ll get back to their own downtrodden ways. Their offense is pitiful and their team is banged up.

As long as the Cowboys don’t give this feeble team extra opportunities with turnovers, they’ll win and cover.

Pick: Cowboys -11
