NFL Week 13 Review-Week 14 Preview – Cardinals Thrive, Saints Survive

In the NFC, the New Orleans Saints dodged a huge bullet in Week 13 while the Arizona Cardinals and Philadelphia Eagles put on stellar performances that moved each team into a closer position to possibly challenge New Orleans should they meet in the playoffs.

In the AFC, the Pittsburgh Steelers’ upset loss to the Oakland Raiders moved the defending Super Bowl champs a wee bit closer to being knocked out of the playoffs altogether while the Miami Dolphins pulled off the other upset of the week, beating the New England Patriots to climb back into playoff contention themselves.

Here is a look back at the week that was – and glimpse ahead at the upcoming matchups for Week 14.

Jets 19 Bills 13

Ho-hum. The Jets handled the Bills in a contest between two teams that have no planes for the postseason this year, but could be big-time factors in 2010. The Jets visit Tampa Bay in Week 14 while the Bills head to Kansas City.

Eagles 34 Falcons 7

This game played out exactly as I expected – with Philadelphia cruising to victory over a Falcons team that was playing without two five starting players including Matt Ryan and Michael Turner.

Donovan McNabb and the Birds hit the road to face the Giants in another knock-down, drag-out NFC East showdown while the Falcons will try to become the first team to hand the Saints a loss when the AFC South teams meet in the A.T.L.

Bears 17 Rams 9

The Bears snapped a four-game losing streak by narrowly beating a St. Louis team that has actually played some pretty good defense over the last month or so. Chicago plays host to the incendiary Green Bay Packers while the Rams get served up on a platter to the Tennessee Titans.

Bengals 23 Lions 13

The Bengals won this game, but they haven’t looked very impressive on offense the last two weeks. Cincinnati visits a ticked-off Minnesota squad in Week 14 in a contest that could turn out to be the Game of the Week. The Lions will be road kill for the Ravens in Week 14.

Raiders 27 Steelers 24

The Raiders pulled off the biggest upset of the week, but seeing as how the Steelers have fallen completely apart, maybe this isn’t as much of an upset as many believe. The Raiders host the Washington Redskins while Pittsburgh plays Cleveland on Thursday night.

Colts 27 Titans 17

The Colts ‘handled their business’ in this contest, beating the red-hot Titans to remain undefeated. The Titans will looks to keep their postseason hopes alive at home against the Rams in Week 14 while the Colts host the Denver Broncos in an anticipated matchup.

Broncos 44 Chiefs 13

Denver laid an emphatic smackdown on the lowly Chiefs, but will have a much tougher time at Indianapolis in Week 14 while Kansas City should have a shot at beating the mediocre Buffalo Bills at home.

Dolphins 22 Patriots 21

Miami beat the Patriots to split the regular season series and move within one game of the AFC East leaders. The surging Dolphins visit the perplexing Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday while the Patriots will have their hands full at home against Carolina.

Saints 33 Redskins 30 OT

The Saints pulled out the overtime victory here but could fall to the division rival Atlanta Falcons on the road this Sunday in an explosive matchup. Washington visits Oakland in Week 14.

Panthers 16 Buccaneers 6

The Panthers beat back the lowly Buccaneers but will have a much tougher time beating the Patriots in New England in Week 14. Tampa Bay plays host to the New York Jets on Sunday.

Jaguars 23 Texans 18

The Jacksonville Jaguars just keep surprising this season, winning when I least expect it. The Jags play host to the blossoming Miami Dolphins while the reeling Houston Texans should be able to get back in the win column at home against Seattle.

Chargers 30 Browns 23

The Bolts gave up 23 points but pushed their winning streak to eight games with this victory. The Chargers are in Dallas for Week 14 while Cleveland Brady Quinn and the Browns play host to Pittsburgh on Thursday night.

Giants 31 Cowboys 24

I like the G-Men to win this game and they certainly didn’t disappoint. The Giants will face the streaking Philadelphia Eagles in an NFC East thriller at home while Dallas plays host to the incendiary Chargers.

Seahawks 20 49ers 17

The Niners let me down n this game, losing to a Seattle team in need of a major overhaul. San Francisco hosts the high-scoring Cardinals in a tough NFC West matchup while the Seahawks visit the Houston Texans.

Cardinals 30 Vikings 17

Arizona absolutely destroyed Minnesota on both sides of the ball in this game and head into their Week 14 road date at Frisco feeling pretty darned good. Minnesota plays host to the surprising Bengals in what figures to be another tough matchup.

Packers 27 Ravens 14

The streaking Packers made mince-meat out of the inconsistent Ravens in this one and are looking like a lock to beat the uninspiring Chicago bears on the road in Week 14 while the Ravens will undoubtedly bounce back from this loss at home against the lowly Lions.
