NFL Week 5 Match Ups
The two big games for week 5 include a couple of teams I did not think we would be talking about before the season began. The 3-1 New England Patriots travel to Denver to take on the surprising 4-0 Broncos and 3-1 Cincinnati heads to Baltimore to clash with the 3-1 Ravens for the outright lead in the AFC North.
Here is a brief look at all the match ups with some keys to the game.

Week 5 Sunday, Oct. 11
(Byes: Chicago, Green Bay, New Orleans, San Diego)
Cincinnati Bengals at Baltimore Ravens
Both team’s offense has shown the ability to move the ball and put points on the board. If the Bengals can avoid the crucial turnover they will have a chance to win.
Cleveland Browns at Buffalo Bills
This game features two head coaches, Eric Mangini and Dick Jauron that are already feeling the heat for some questionable decisions.
Washington Redskins at Carolina Panthers
The Redskins have brought in a Bill Walsh protégée, Sherman Lewis to help Jim Zorn with their struggling offense. Carolina, coming off a bye is still looking for their first win.
Pittsburgh Steelers at Detroit Lions
The Lions will have to play of full 60 minutes of football in order to have any chance against the Steelers. Too many mistakes in the second half have been their downfall.
Dallas Cowboys at Kansas City Chiefs
Kansas City is just what the doctor ordered for the Tony Romo and the floundering Cowboys. They should have an opportunity to work out the kinks on both sides of the ball against the winless Chiefs.
Oakland Raiders at New York Giants
Raider QB JaMarkus Russell’s 40% passing completion percentage is not going to get it done against the Giants top ranked defense. They will not need Eli Manning to win this one.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles should have both QB Donovan McNabb and RB Brian Westbrook back for this game. Philadelphia, under Andy Reid is a perfect 10-0 after coming off a bye.
Minnesota Vikings at St. Louis Rams
The Vikings will have to avoid a letdown against the winless Rams after their big win over the Packers on Monday night. The St. Louis defense has been steadily improving each week in spite of no support from their offense.
Atlanta Falcons at San Francisco 49ers
This game will be all about RB Michael Turner and the Falcon offense against a 49er defense that is ranked 4th against the run and 2nd in points allowed.
Houston Texans at Arizona Cardinals
Whichever team’s offense shows up for this game should win. So far this season, both these teams have been incredibly inconsistent in all phases of the game.
New England Patriots at Denver Broncos
In the game of the week, Denver’s 2nd ranked defense will face a Patriot offense that is starting to hit their stride. Since the 2006 season, Tom Brady is 10-0 in the month of October.
Jacksonville Jaguars at Seattle Seahawks
It remains to be seen whether Seattle QB Matt Hasselbeck will be able to play, as the Seahawks offense has really struggled without him. Jacksonville has shown some signs of life winning their last two games.
Indianapolis Colts at Tennessee Titans
If Kerry Collin’s inconsistent play at quarterback continues, the Titans may turn to Vince Young. Unfortunately, the Colts will probably have put this game out of reach for this move to matter.
Monday, Oct. 12
New York Jets at Miami Dolphins
Dolphins RB Ronnie Brown could be the key to this game against a Jets’ defense that is ranked 13th against the run, but 4th overall.
From a betting perspective there are 6 games this week with 9+ point spreads, begging you to believe some teams aren’t as bad as their record. Be careful of falling into this trap as in many of the cases, the odds makers are giving these teams points because they cannot score them on their own.
