Free Week 6 NFL Totals Predictions

Its week SIX of the 2009 NFL season and we pick and preview all of the week 6 matchups from an OVER/Under NFL betting perspective this season…

NFL Week 6 Matchups Betting Preview

Week five in the NFL belonged to the underdog as nine teams that were getting points covered. Three teams; Kansas City, Washington, and Detroit covered but lost outright while six teams; Cleveland, Cincinnati, Atlanta, Denver, Miami, and Seattle all won outright. It wasn’t all good for the underdog as three teams; N.Y. Giants, Philadelphia, and Minnesota won and covered a double digit point spread.

Here is a rundown of all this week’s games and the current lines as supplied by MySportsbook.com.

Sunday, Oct. 18

(Byes: Dallas, Indianapolis, Miami, San Francisco)

Houston Texans at Cincinnati Bengals (-4)
Current Over/Under 45.5

The pressure is on Houston to try and salvage their season with a win. Cincinnati could be ripe for a letdown. Take the Texans to cover and the over in this one.

Detroit Lions at Green Bay Packers (-14)
Current Over/Under 48

Detroit finds a way to keep games close, but makes the crucial mistake at worst possible time. Look for another close loss for the Lions with the total staying under.

St. Louis Rams at Jacksonville Jaguars (-11)
Current Over/Under 42

Look for Jacksonville to bounce back after last week’s blowout loss to Seattle. The return of Rams QB Mark Bulger should help them cover the spread, but it will not be enough to win. This game stays under.

Baltimore Ravens at Minnesota Vikings (-3)
Current Over/Under 44

This will be a true test for both teams. The Vikings have yet to really play anybody and the Ravens need to bounce back from two tough losses. Take Baltimore and the over in this game.

New York Giants at New Orleans Saints (-3)
Current Over/Under 47.5

This game will be for the top spot in the NFC. While both teams have top ranked defenses, Giants #1 and the Saints #6 this game turns into a shootout with New Orleans winning by 3. Stick with the over for this one.

Cleveland Browns at Pittsburgh Steelers (-15)
Current Over/Under 38

The Steelers should get RB Willie Parker and SS Troy Polamalu back this week which should help, but I still see the Browns covering this huge spread with the game staying under.

Carolina Panthers (-3) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Current Over/Under 40

Both QB Jake Delhomme and DE Julius Peppers played much better for the Panthers last week which should carry over this week against Tampa. Take Carolina and the under.

Kansas City Chiefs at Washington Redskins (-6.5)
Current Over/Under 38

If Washington loses this game, Redskins owner, Daniel Snyder might fire Jim Zorn before his postgame speech. Washington does enough to win, but doesn’t cover the spread. This game definitely stays under.

Philadelphia Eagles (-14) at Oakland Raiders
Current Over/Under 40.5

The Raiders have gotten progressively worse each week, while the Philly offense is starting to pick up steam. Take the Eagles to cover as well as the over.

Arizona Cardinals at Seattle Seahawks (-3)
Current Over/Under 47.5

Both these teams are back in the thick of the NFC West race. Seattle is a different team with QB Matt Hasselbeck and their defense is playing well. Take the Seahawks to cover and the over as well.

Tennessee Titans at New England Patriots (-9.5)
Current Over/Under 43.5

This will be a tough place for Tennessee to try and get their first win as Brady should have a field day against the Titans 31st ranked pass defense. Take New England to cover and the under.

Buffalo Bills at New York Jets (-10)
Current Over/Under 38

The Jets will look to stop the bleeding against the Bills after losing two straight. The Bills offense is no match for the Jets defense, as New York covers in this one. Stay with the under as well.

Chicago Bears at Atlanta Falcons (-3.5)
Current Over/Under 45.5

While both teams love to run the ball, this game will come down to which QB has the best game; Jay Cutler for the Bears or Matt Ryan for the Falcons. Take the Falcons to cover as well as the over in this one.

Monday, Oct. 19

Denver Broncos at San Diego Chargers (-4)
Current Over/Under 44

Look for San Diego QB Philip Rivers to attack the Denver secondary to try and generate some big plays. I like the Chargers to win, but not cover the spread. I love the over in this game.

The total lines are creeping up with only three games under 40, but do not be afraid of leaning toward the over bet.

My best bets for the week are Ravens @ Vikings over and the Lions +14.
