Week 2 Power Rankings
This Week | Last Week | Record | Comment | |
| 1 | Pittsburgh | 1–0 | OK, he’s tough….but can Ben Roethlisberger survive getting whacked 8-10 times a game? |
| 3 | New York Giants | 1–0 | With this defense and running game, Manning doesn’t have to be good |
| 2 | New England | 1–0 | Obvious that offense will have to bail out a mediocre defense every week |
| 4 | Indianapolis | 1–0 | Colts are already in control of the AFC South |
| 5 | Philadelphia | 1–0 | If McNabb can’t go, the Eagles had Jeff Garcia sign on |
| 6 | Tennessee | 0–1 | Kerry Collins is just good enough to not screw things up |
| 9 | Atlanta | 1–0 | Looks like clear sailing for Falcons in a weakened NFC South |
| 8 | Baltimore | 1–0 | Vs. KC: 43 passes, 41 rushes….what’s going on here? |
| 7 | San Diego | 1–0 | Chargers will win the West; staying focused game to game is the concern |
| 11 | New Orleans | 1–0 | Not enough D to go deep in playoffs, but they’ll be fun to watch |
| 12 | New York Jets | 1–0 | Safe bet that Tom Brady was studying all those blitz schemes Jets used vs. Texans |
| 13 | Minnesota | 1–0 | Doesn’t get too dicey for Vikes and Favre until mid-October |
| 17 | Dallas | 1–0 | Biggest number was 0 (interceptions by Romo) vs. Bucs |
| 19 | Green Bay | 1–0 | Good sign when you can beat a decent opponent when your offense is at 75 percent efficiency |
| 15 | Arizona | 0–1 | Cardinals can forget about a cakewalk in the NFC West |
| 16 | Miami | 0–1 | Could get ugly: Indy at home this coming week, then at San Diego |
| 14 | Carolina | 0–1 | Same team as last year’s, but there’s something missing |
| 18 | Houston | 0–1 | Texans are in desperate need of a bye week |
| 20 | Washington | 0–1 | Defenses will overload line of scrimmage against risk-averse Redskin offense |
| 21 | Seattle | 1–0 | Interesting NFC West division game Sunday at San Francisco |
| 10 | Chicago | 0–1 | They lose to Pack; they lose Urlacher; and Pittsburgh is next |
| 23 | San Francisco | 1–0 | “I’m sorry, Mr. Crabtree. Mr. Singletary is in a meeting and can’t take your call.” |
| 26 | Jacksonville | 0–1 | Jags deserve credit on near-miss in Indy and are actually favored over Arizona |
| 24 | Buffalo | 0–1 | One fumble away from what would have been Bills’ biggest victory of the decade |
| 25 | Oakland | 0–1 | Outplayed San Diego for 59 minutes and 42 seconds |
| 30 | Denver | 1–0 | Josh McDaniels’s luck may be starting to change |
| 27 | St. Louis | 0–1 | Low expectations for Rams, and they met them |
| 28 | Detroit | 0–1 | Lions are on a pace to give up 720 points this season |
| 29 | Kansas City | 0–1 | Problems on the offensive line will take a toll every game |
| 22 | Cincinnati | 0–1 | Probably not a good idea for unlucky Bengals to hit the casino or buy lottery tickets any time soon |
| 31 | Cleveland | 0–1 | Mangini declined to say that Brady Quinn played QB against the Vikings |
| 32 | Tampa Bay | 0–1 | Hard to see how the Bucs move up |
