The Saints held a double-digit lead over the Falcons in their opener, but the team saw that lead evaporate as they eventually suffered a 37-34 setback in overtime.

Wide receiver Marques Colston’s fumble on the second play of overtime wound up being the play that cost the team the game.

As for the Browns, they lost their game by only a field goal as well, but that was a tail of two halfs. The Browns went into the break trailing 27-3 before storming back in the second half to tie the game, only to see it slip away on a late Shaun Suisham field goal.

Quarterback Brian Hoyer fought hard just to fend off underwhelming rookie Johnny Manziel in the preseason, but he showed that he belongs in the starting role, completing 19-of-31 passes for 230 yards and adding a nine-yard touchdown.

Hoyer and the Browns offense should find success against a generous Saints defense that surrendered 568 total yards in its opener against the Falcons. Running back Ben Tate won’t be around, but Terrance West and Isaiah Crowell filled in admirably in his absence a week ago. The possible absence of tight end Jordan Cameron would be more impactful.

For the Saints, rookie wide receiver Brandin Cooks showed that he is the real deal. He hauled in seven passes and finished with 95 total yards from scrimmage and a touchdown in his pro debut.

Tight end Jimmy Graham hauled in eight passes, while Colston brought in six.

Free New Orleans vs. Cleveland Pick:

For Drew Brees, his worst quarterback rating against any opponent is against the Browns. While the Saints figure to score their fair share of points, the Browns have enough skill to answer back.

They’ve been far more competitive with Hoyer under center, and should get enough stops on defense to remain in this game.

Additionally, the Saints simply don’t have enough juice on defense to limit the Browns offense for very long, which means we’ll see some scoring in this one. The total is in a tough spot for over bettors, but just low enough to warrant some action.

The Saints are 2-7 ATS in their last nine road games and 2-5 ATS in their last seven Week 2 games.

The over is 5-1 in the Browns’ last six home games, and it is 11-3 in the Saints’ last 14 Week 2 games.
