Free Week 17 NFL Totals Predictions

Its week Seventeen of the 2009 NFL season and we pick and preview all of the week 17 matchups from an OVER/Under NFL betting perspective this season…

NFL Week 17 Betting Preview

Chalk one up for the odds makers as last week was pretty even right across the board. Seven teams getting points covered the spread with two teams; Kansas City and Denver losing but covering and five teams; Houston, Carolina, Tampa Bay, N.Y. Jets, and Chicago winning outright.

The biggest upset of the week goes to the Buccaneers, who shocked the New Orleans 20-17 in overtime handing them their second straight loss.

Ten teams enjoyed being home for the Holidays winning straight up, while eight won ATS. For the second week in a row the totals bet was split right down the middle with eight games staying under, and eight going over.

Here is a rundown of all this week’s games and the current lines as supplied by MySportsbook.com.

Sunday, Jan. 3

Indianapolis Colts at Buffalo Bills (-7)
Over/Under 38

Indianapolis has absolutely nothing to gain in this game so look for most of the starters to be on the bench even earlier this time. Go with the Bills and the UNDER.

New Orleans Saints at Carolina Panthers
Over/Under

Even though they have clinched the number one seed, New Orleans cannot afford to go into the postseason with three straight losses so the effort will be there. Take the Saints and the OVER.

Jacksonville Jaguars at Cleveland Browns (-3)
Over/Under 38.5

Cleveland has won three straight as both coaches and players are fighting for their jobs, but Jacksonville is too good of a team to be getting three points in this game. The Jaguars and the UNDER.

Philadelphia Eagles at Dallas Cowboys (-3)
Over/Under 47.5

The NFC East title comes down to this game in a winner takes all finale. Philadelphia locks up the #2 seed and a first round bye with a win which provides just a bit more motivation. I’m going with the Eagles and the OVER.

Chicago Bears (-3) at Detroit Lions
Over/Under 45

Chicago is a different team on the road going just 1-6 this season but should still be good enough to beat a Detroit team that is down to their third string quarterback. The Bears and the UNDER.

New England Patriots at Houston Texans (-8)
Over/Under 46

Bill Belichick has never been known for resting his starters so expect Tom Brady and company to be at full strength and playing for the win. Go with the Patriots and the UNDER in this game.

Pittsburgh Steelers (-3) at Miami Dolphins
Over/Under 46.5

Pittsburgh has not looked spectacular in their last two wins, but Miami has looked completely out of sync in their last two losses. Take the Steelers and the OVER.

New York Giants at Minnesota Vikings (-8.5)
Over/Under 48

The N.Y. Giants seem to be content just mailing it in for the Holidays and Minnesota only seems to be able to win at home. Go with the Vikings and the OVER.

San Francisco 49ers (-7) at St. Louis Rams
Over/Under 40.5

San Francisco can get to 8-8 with a win which would be a moral victory for Mike Singletary in his first full season as head coach. Stick with the 49ers and the UNDER.

Atlanta Falcons (-1.5) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Over/Under 41.5

Currently at 8-7, Atlanta needs a win to have back winning seasons for the first time in franchise history. Tampa is still celebrating their improbable win over the Saints. The Falcons and the OVER.

Green Bay Packers at Arizona Cardinals (-3)
Over/Under 43.5

While Arizona still has an outside chance at the #2 seed, Green Bay has all the reason in the world to lay down in this game as these two teams are very likely to meet again next week in the playoffs. Go with the Cardinals and the UNDER.

Kansas City Chiefs at Denver Broncos (-13)
Over/Under 38

Even with a win, Denver will most likely miss the playoffs after going 6-0 start to the season, but I do not see Kansas City putting up too much of a fight in this one. Take the Broncos and the OVER.

Baltimore Ravens (-10) at Oakland Raiders
Over/Under 38

Four out of five of Oakland’s wins have come against teams with winning records and they did knock Tampa Bay out of the playoffs in last year’s season finale. I’m out on a limb with the Raiders and the UNDER.

Washington Redskins at San Diego Chargers (-4)
Over/Under 39.5

Washington has already called it quits for the season so even San Diego’s second team should be able to keep their 10 game winning streak intact. Go with the Chargers and the UNDER.

Tennessee Titans (-4.5) at Seattle Seahawks
Over/Under 44

Tennessee has a chance to finish 8-8 after a 0-6 start, but more importantly RB Chris Johnson needs 128 yards to rush for 2000 on the year. Take the Titans and the UNDER.

Cincinnati Bengals at New York Jets (-10)
Over/Under 36

New York will most likely catch a break for the second week in a row as there is nothing on the line for Cincinnati in this game so the starters will probably sit. The Jets and the UNDER.

There are still a number of possible playoff scenarios to be played out this week, especially in the AFC. Look for Philadelphia to grab the #2 seed in the NFC and for Pittsburgh and New York to get the final two playoff spots.
